The Department of Education is threatening to dock Willie Chaneys social security check again for outstanding student loans.
The problem?
Chaney claims he never took the loans out and has never even enrolled in college.
The 74-year-old told FOX 5 in Atlanta he never even graduated high school, let alone take out loans to attend college in Arizona a place he said hes never been, either.
He tells the station he believes he is the victim of identity theft.
Everything they send me I already done did, Chaney said. They want me to read this paper and, uh, check off this and that and get it notarized then I done did that so many times.
The worst part is that he isnt even benefiting from the education that hes supposed to be paying for.
Its a funny thing though, I suppose to be in college, but I dont know what course Im taking up.
And because Chaney never even graduated high school, he admits he is in over his head when it comes to understanding all the legal hoops that he is required to jump through.
Sadly, despite the fact that the federal government assures Chaney it is continuing to work on this case diligently, it looks like Chaney is going to have to keep fighting.
I aint gonna give up. No mam. I might give out, he said.
I had something similar happen except I really did have a loan which was repaid.
Nothing would stop them. Certified letters, numerous phone calls and it just kept coming. After nearly 10 years they turned it over to a collection agency and believe it or not, they discovered that I had already paid.
If a collection agency is more understanding than you then you are pretty bad.
Sounds like just the thing you Representatives office should help you with.
When the government bureaucracy is being deliberately stupid it is the first, second and third place you should go.
Your Representative and Senators need to be pestered relentlessly with the stupidity of government agencies so that they are aware of how pointless are all of these government programs.
Collection agencies are restrained by law and can be sued. The Feds aren’t and can’t be.
Yep hard to believe we over threw a king, but somehow got sovereign immunity handed down via common law. Imagine how much more circumspect all levels of government would be if they were liable ala businesses for the mistakes they make. Thanks again federal judiciary.
Arizona? Yep, Identity Theft is a real good guess.
Government at any time can bankrupt an innocent person. How is this country better than the Soviet Union?
“The Feds arent and cant be.”
Yes they and yes they can. you just don’t have the money to do it and that’s what they count on.

How hard can it be to backtrack to see who took out the student loan and to which college the identity thief went to and what classes he took?
Is he a registered Republican?
