‘Everyman’ Walker runs for the White House
Financial Times ^ | July 12, 2015 6:22 pm | Megan Murphy in Washington

He drives a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He brags about wearing a sweater he bought for $1 at Kohl’s department store.

He touts his humble upbringing as a small-town minister’s son, and how he proposed to his wife over ribs at a local barbecue joint. Scott Walker, the governor of Wisconsin, has criss-crossed the country for months regaling crowds with his everyman, “regular Joe” shtick.

On Monday, as he becomes the 15th Republican to enter the race for the party’s 2016 presidential nomination, his backers are hoping he can convince voters not only that he is the most authentic candidate, but one who can rise to meet the most complex economic and foreign policy challenges facing the country.

“He’s a Midwesterner, he is a governor, and he is an average Joe,” said Larry Sabato, a politics expert at the University of Virginia. “People can relate to that. And if you pretend to be something you’re not, you’re going to be unmasked.”

He also talks about reducing legal immigration drastically.

Sure he does.....

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) today presented an amendment to the Gang of Eight immigration bill that would improve our nation’s legal immigration system by increasing high-skilled temporary worker visas, called H-1B visas, by 500 percent.

SW has been known to ride in Iowa, which does not have a helmet law. Once they get too well-known, pols probably don’t get to ride much.

The unions tried to take him out three times. He won three elections (including a recall election) in a Leftist state. Ryan couldn't help Romney win WI, which hasn't gone Rep since 1984. WI is a solid blue state. No Rep is going to win WI in 2016.

Walker delivers on conservative issues. He has been tough and resolute despite massive pressure from the Left inside and outside WI.

He took on the Teachers Union and won, including no longer having the state collect union dues. He battled and won to get a stricter voter ID law. On March 9, 2015, Walker signed legislation making Wisconsin a right-to-work state.

Walker signed the 2011 state budget that de-funded Planned Parenthood.

In 2013, Walker signed a bill that requires women seeking abortions to undergo an ultrasound and doctors to show the women the image of the fetus.

Walker approved a two-year freeze of tuition at the University of Wisconsin System in the 2013 budget. In 2014, he proposed a two-year extension of the freeze based on expected cash balances for the system in excess of $1 billion.

He wants to limit legal immigration to the highly skilled people who can contribute to the country and create jobs.

Walker might win. If I recall correctly, his polls were generally negative prior to election day. Then Walker won.

NumbersUSA gives Cruz a C on the protection of workers. Walker gets a B-.

Under the category Support overall reduction in annual immigration Cruz is rated ABYSMAL by NumbersUSA.

In a Presidential election with increased turnout, Walker can’t win. WI is a solid blue state when it comes to Presidential elections.

Five times the immigration of cheap nominally skilled IT workers to allow companies like Disney to replace their American workforce. Sounds like no limit to this IT worker who’s income has been reduced by market flooding by Indian IT workers.

——No Rep is going to win WI in 2016.

If we cut the heart out of their cheating operation we might have a chance.

The reaction from Republican lawmakers was outrage and the response was swift Friday following the Wall Street Journal’s bombshell revelations that the director of the state’s political speech regulator and the head of the IRS division accused of targeting conservative groups may have shared information about Wisconsin’s political John Doe investigation.

Okay, then what you are in effect saying is that you don’t want anyone with practical business experience. Strange...

Walker lost me when he granted an interview, claimed his immigration policy had changed, and then confirmed it hadn’t all within about a five to ten minutes time span in the same interview.

It’s generally assumed that WI is a leftist state, but Walker was elected three times, and the WI State Senate and Assembly are controlled by Republicans with the Republican margin in the Assembly being the greatest in 50 years.

WI has one Republican US Senator and one Democrat Senator. Their US congressional delegation is five Republicans to three Democrats.

Maybe WI Democrats sleep between presidential elections because at the state level and on the off years between presidential elections, Republicans are more than holding their own in the state.

How does a GOP presidential candidate tap into that latent conservatism?

Presidential elections have much higher turnout. There is a reason why Regan was the last Rep to win WI in 1984. The composition of the legislature is more of a function of the demography of the various districts. No doubt the liberals are concentrated in certain areas--similar to the country as a whole. The big urban areas dominate in statewide elections like Detroit does in MI or Philadelphia and Pittsburgh do in PA.

The country is becoming more liberal as our children go thru the liberal indoctrination centers otherwise known as public education.

Walker is definitely on my top 3 list right now.

He has guts, knows how to handle pressure and stand up to bully’s, and beat the dems at their own game 3 times in 4 years. No easy feat.

Cruz and Trump complete my top 3 but I’m not completely discounting Carson quite yet. I was hoping Fiorina would show some backbone on this immigration issue, the biggest issue of our time, but she outed herself as a RINO.

Trump is doing all of us a huge favor right now. He is forcing all the GOP candidates to show their true colors for us all to see. You can’t buy that kind of thing.

I would be happy to see any of my 3 picks make it to the WH.

For the first time in a very long time; I will be voting for the person I like the best rather than the one who is the least evil. That right there is a good feeling.

Trump is hitting important issues. Cruz articulates principled policy in Couric's face. Walker wins agains the leftist streetfighters.

Walker just won against the university leg of the liberal tripod (the other two being government and media.)

He won against government unions and survived multiple thuggish recall attempts.

I wonder if Megan ever used the word “schtick” in reference to a Democrat candidate.

I searched Megan, Fox, Schtick, and didn't find any reference to any news at all.
What I did find was very fascinating though.
