Event for Donald Trump in Phoenix Will Draw Thousands
NY Times ^ | 7/10/15 | Nicholas Fandos

Donald J. Trump, the real estate mogul who has tied Republicans in knots in recent weeks with his comments on immigration, will roll into Phoenix on Saturday to address the issue again, just after the head of the Republican Party supposedly asked him to tone down his words on the issue.

The planned speech is already attracting a storm of attention. Even as city leaders have asked Mr. Trump “to stage his hate-filled circus” elsewhere, ticket requests have been so high the campaign has moved the speech from the swank Arizona Biltmore hotel to the convention center downtown.

“Mr. Trump certainly has a First Amendment right to bluster as much as he wants, and even to pander to our worst instincts in a sad attempt to win votes at the expense of hard-working, honorable, law-abiding Latinos,” Daniel Valenzuela, a Democratic councilman and the city’s vice mayor, said on Thursday. “However, we should draw the line at allowing him to use the Phoenix Convention Center — a public building funded by all of our taxpayers’ dollars.”

Mayor Greg Stanton, also a Democrat, issued a similar statement condemning Mr. Trump and his remarks, but assured that the city would not try to prevent the candidate from speaking.

Mr. Trump’s spokeswoman, Hope Hicks, said on Friday that 4,500 tickets had already been reserved for the speech, 3,500 more than initially expected.

Mr. Trump will appear onstage with Joe Arpaio, the long-serving sheriff of surrounding Maricopa County

...so 100s of thousands.

Remember 9/12/09. Fox news reported 10s of thousands. at least 1/2 million with estimates going over 1 million.

I tried to get tickets and am on the wait list. I know they moved to a bigger venue and there is still a wait.

law-abiding Latinos,” Daniel Valenzuela, a Democratic councilman and the city’s vice mayor, said on Thursday.

Yo, Daniel, you mean the ones that immigrated here legally?

No, I didn’t think so.

Sounds like the Speech Police to me. If the taxpayers dollars put up the building then the TAXPAYERS should be able to use it. Whether you agree with what they say or not!

Taxpayers are the ones who want to fill the seats of the Phoenix Convention Center, Mr. Democrat Fascist.

Mr. Valenzuela, how much do the taxpayers of Phoenix and the state of Arizona pay to feed, house, educate, and provide medical care and public assistance to the non-citizens who flood into that city and the state every year? The nerve of you trying to deny an American born citizen his right to speak in his own country.

Hey Mr. Democrat dumbazz, BECAUSE the convention center was paid for with taxpayer funds, the First Amendment applies and it would be unconstitutional to keep Trump out. Not that you probably care, ya little fascist.

I agree. No, Trump has not “tied Republicans in knots” - just Jeb Bush/Carl Rove/Rubio/Perry/McCain/NASCAR/Macy’s/ESPN and the rest of the “I love illegal aliens” and “lets import more Somalis” crowd.

A few years ago, IIRC, I saw the figure for the cost of illegal immigration in Arizona alone was 6 billion dollars a year.

My apologies. I looked it up, and a study done in 2012 made it at 1.3 billion.

It does not matter how many people are there for Trump, the media will only focus on those that are there to be against him. What might be interesting about this even is that the sheriff might make a big difference in that regard. The illegals may not show up and cause trouble out of fear that Sheriff Joe don’t play well with illegals.

I got them. I must have tried last night before they updated the website with the venue change. Thanks!

This is going to be entertaining to say the least. On many different levels. Communist agitators on the outside and Trump on the inside.

I don’t get the sudden love for Trump. Sure he said what needed to be said about the illegal immigration problem, but he is anti gun. He is a RINO, he contributed to Hillery, he supports abortion rights. There are so many things wrong with Trump that I see no way any reasonable Conservative can support this clown. Trump is our worst nightmare as a general election candidate. He will get absolutely killed by anyone the Dems put against him.

I am going to support either Cruz or Rubio. I haven’t made up mind on which one yet, but they are the only 2 viable candidates in the Republican field.
