Climate change could lead to seas rising 20 feet
CBS News ^ | July 10, 2015 | By MICHAEL CASEY

Rising sea levels have been mostly measured in inches in the past decades, but scientists said they could increase more than 20 feet in the future as global warming continues to melt ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica.

The dire projections are based on a look back at the climate record, with scientists finding that increases of 20 feet have happened at least twice over the past 3 million years when temperatures were very similar to what they are today.

Peter Clark, an Oregon State paleoclimatologist and another co-author of the study, said that because current carbon dioxide levels are as high as they were 3 million years ago, "we are already committed to a certain amount of sea level rise."

"The ominous aspect to this is that CO2 levels are continuing to rise, so we are entering uncharted territory," Clark said. "What is not as certain is the time frame, which is less well-constrained. We could be talking many centuries to a few millennia to see the full impact of melting ice sheets."

And I read yesterday that we have two more slow sun spot cycles of the next 30 some years that will lead to coldest temperatures since 1645...it’s based on science and not some whacky grant giving foundation money. The sun occupies like 98% of the mass of the solar system it is millions of degrees in temp and what happens to it effect all the planets. These people are just plain nuts
Glad I only have a few years before my time expires because we are coming into a very dark period of time

*Isn’t this all a moot point because Prince Charles insisted in 2008 the world only had 18 months to do something about “global warming?”

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/theroyalfamily/1961719/Prince-Charles-Eighteen-months-to-stop-climate-change-disaster.html *

Oh yeah!

Remember when the Earth was completely destroyed by global warming in 2009 and we all had to go to Mars to wait for everything to get better and then we all came back to Earth in 2011?

...neither do I...

I thought I read just yesterday Antarctica ice is at record highs.

True, but sea ice doesn't affect sea level. The big change will come when Antarctica finally warms enough to accumulate snow. Then we will probably see dropping sea levels. Greenland had record snow accumulation last winter and spring.

*And just yesterday I was reading that Antarctic ice pack was largest ever recorded. Guess the weather, science, and fanatics don’t share info.*

If you believe in man-made Climate Change, you have to check your brain at the door and avoid facts as if they were Kyptonite.

Yeah, and space aliens could come to earth tomorrow and snatch up every liberal democrat and transport them to an interplanetary penal colony.

"Climate change could lead to seas rising 20 feet"

And then again, maybe not.

As I recall, melting a pound of ice will yield a pound of water. That pound of ice will float in water because it expands slightly and is therefore less dense than water.

When that one pound of ice floats in the water it will displace EXACTLY one pound of water.

When that one pound of ice melts it will become one pound of water and will take up exactly the same volume as the one pound of ice.

So the water level does not rise when the ice melts.

Correct me if I’m mistaken. I’m always willing to learn something new.

Melting sea ice is moot. Increases in Antarctic sea ice are also moot regarding sea level. They are referring to ice on land. But they are basically wrong for a couple reasons. First they can’t compare past climates to the present, weather patterns are very different. Global temperature is set by weather, not CO2. Second, any net loss from Greenland will easily be offset in Antarctica as it warms. Right now it is way too cold to snow much in Antarctica.

“...current carbon dioxide levels are as high as they were 3 million years ago”

So does this mean that people were driving around in their cars and burning fossil fuels 3 millions years ago? No, it’s actually caused by nature? Shazam! Someone notify Al Gore.
