WASHINGTON (AP) The head of the government's personnel office has resigned in the wake of a massive data breach on her watch.
A White House official says President Barack Obama accepted the resignation of Office of Personnel Management Director Katherine Archuleta on Friday morning. She'll stay on the job through the end of the day.
The official says deputy director Beth Cobert will become acting director starting Saturday.

Take a bow.
You have served your president well.
“Meet the new boss, same as the old boss...”
No worries they just “fired” one dimwitted ex librarian for another. They will get the firewall up around their electronic file card system anytime now.
"This was legitimate state espionage, one government going after another for information that could contribute to its national security. As director of the National Security Agency, given the opportunity against similar Chinese information, I would not have hesitated for a second...and I wouldn't have had to get anyone's permission to do it."
Money Quote: "This is what serious nation-states do. All of them. There is no shame for China here. This is shame on us."
There's plenty of blame for this disaster to go around. Ms. Archuleta was simply a willing pawn in a very dangerous game orchestrated by the White House's unwillingness to get truly serious about what Gen. Hayden calls "cyberhygiene."
Speaking as somebody whose family got personally affected by the OPM hack (21 million and counting): Barack Obama picked an amazing person to run that agency, huh?
Let me be absolutely clear on this. Katherine Archuleta, OPM Director, was given the job for two reasons: one, she was Barack Obamas national political director for the 2012 campaign. Two, shes Latina
Obama in a nutshell.
Obamas appointment of Archuleta comes after the president faced pressure from Latino advocacy groups to appoint Hispanics to serve in his second-term cabinet. More than seven in ten Latinos voted for Obama in last years election, but the number of Latino cabinet members is set to fall from two to one.
the action is a warning shot. Obama is warned that the NSA spying and DOD hacking must cease
Obama is being told others can play his espionage game
although the data was hacked, if it is not used, there is no harm
it is mutually assured cyber war destruction if Obama gets pissed, has a I’m king of the world tantrum and persists
he has essentially been contained

With the new information the Chinese have, there will be no need for hostilities. Our government controllers will be extorted into giving the Chinese whatever they want.
Archuleta?
She’ll get a new GS job with a big pay raise and maybe a bigger desk with a nicer view
and a bonus for this year
bendover
I hope some Chinese woman named “Archuleta” is charging things on her credit cards
“The new acting head looks a bit like Bruce Jenner”
o.m.g. you’re right!
Good riddance to the incompetent old hag-bag!!
I implied that his data wasn't among the breached.
Perhaps he found out it was?
I predict - this will be a total surprise to you - that the next person to hold this job will be even less competent and chosen only for his/her willingness to toe the bolshevik line.
Ummmmmm.... the horse has already left the barn. It’s like adding new radar and anti-aircraft to Hawaii after Dec 7th.
Just read a blurb that says Congress is working (I know, I know) on special legislation that provides lifetime PII protection for all of us who were disclosed. I’m still relying on Lifelock...
Bad stuff happens when Fabian Socialists are Pres__ent.
I agree with your sentiment...
But will add...a pool that needs to be drained post haste...
I doubt I could even classify this breach as incompetence...the level of this breach defies any definition of incompetence...criminal, treasonous come to mind.
First “Latina” to serve as OPM director.
Purely political hire.
