Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) met with billionaire hedge-fund manager Dan Loeb on Wednesday, Business Insider has learned.
Walker was seeking Loeb's key financial support ahead of his all-but-certain presidential campaign, but he didn't get it. According to sources close to the situation, the sticking point was Loeb's support of same-sex marriage.
Last month, Walker called the Supreme Court's decision to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide a "grave mistake." He also called for a constitutional amendment to reverse the decision.
As a result of this decision, the only alternative left for the American people is to support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to reaffirm the ability of the states to continue to define marriage, Walker said.
Deep-pocketed Wall Streeters have been vocal about the fact that they're no longer interested in supporting socially conservative candidates this go-round. They've traded in their social values for conservative fiscal policies over the last few election cycles, and it hasn't gotten them anywhere.
They're tired of making that losing trade.
"I tend to be more Republican in my views, but socially very liberal. I'm going to have trouble with any Republican that does not disavow a fixation with social issues," billionaire investor Leon Cooperman said in a recent interview with Wall Street Week.
"Republicans have to understand that, because young people in our country are not grabbed by those issues."
What all this means is that Loeb's money is still up for grabs. Back in 2011, Loeb said he would back Christie for president because "you never have a question about where he stands on anything."

"Almost two-thirds of Republicans oppose the Supreme Courts backing of gay marriage, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, which gives hope for conservative presidential candidates who have come out strongly against marriage equality.
Republicans would struggle to make opposition to same-sex marriage a winning issue in next Novembers general election because more than half [55% per same survey] of Americans support it, according to the online survey.
But there is still a clear majority of Republicans - 63 percent - who think the courts historic decision last month to legalize gay marriage nationwide was wrong.
That could give a boost to gay marriage opponents like Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee in the fight for the Republican nomination.
Walker, whose is widely expected to declare his candidacy next week, described the Supreme Court ruling as a "grave mistake," and has called for a constitutional amendment to allow states to decide whether to allow gay marriage...."
The PEOPLE "Stand with Walker."
SSDD. Loeb is a supporter of all things Romney.
RomneyCARE. RomneyMarriage. Romney backstabbing.
And there you have part of the explanation for RINOs. RINOs are the ones who get funding from rich “Republicans”.
What religion is Daniel Leob? See for yourself: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_S._Loeb
Why is it that so many Jewish people see nothing wrong with gay marriage, or being gay itself? I don’t understand it.
I noticed this trend to extreme liberalism when the ACLU was first organized years ago.
What is it with all these billionaires and same sex marriage? Not even all homosexuals agree on that.
RINOs- Liberals who don’t like paying taxes.
If Loeb doesn’t like Walker, he’s gonna hate Cruz.
Standing with principles will cost; changing your mind on principles will cost more.
I’m sure the pressure was great to change... Good on Walker!
It’s like horse racing. Rich owners and their thoroughbreds who do their bidding.
There is no “Business” or “Insider” from Business Insider.
They are a pro-homosexual, leftist rag sheet. Why do people keep posting junk articles from that queer website.
This election isn’t going to happen in a vacuum.
I like knowing where all the pieces are on the chess board.
I have a barn full of signs that say “We stand with Walker”. We’ll pull them at at a moment’s notice.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Liberal Social issue of today. Abolition was the Liberal social issue of the 1800s. Lincoln got quite a lot of support from these Wealthy New Yorkers because he agreed with their Liberal social policies. The Democrat party of that time split over this social issue and thereby handed Lincoln a divided opposition.
I agree. “Business Insider”, my left testicle.
go away dimwit.
Dan Loeb and other spoiled greedhead cheerleaders for the Sodom and Gomorrah perversion posing as “marriage” should take their money and put it where the sun shineth not. AND, if his money and that of others like him goes to Jebbie, actual Republicans should react accordingly and refuse their votes to Jebbie on that basis alone, as well as on immigration, Common Core and a lengthening list of other issues. If Dan Loeb wants to be active politically with his mountain of money influence, let him go Demonrat, the party of Sodom and Gomorrah.
It must be understood that most of the extremely wealthy GOP donors are really globalists who are about as conservative as Jimmy Carter. They crave power for themselves, not freedom for Americans.
Still substituting insults for argument? DiogenesLamp's truth hurts doesn't it?
