A federal judge has ordered the Patent and Trademark Office to cancel registration of the Washington Redskins' trademark, ruling that the team name may be disparaging to Native Americans. "Maybe," or maybe not. "Disparaging," is now against the law? Not "libel?" Is this a judge? A real "judge," or is he administrative?
And where in the hell are you gonna find someone with standing? All the native Americans I know love the name and the team.
Methinks we don't have much time...

>>> Judge ..... finds name may be disparaging
Since everybody now can use the now-defunc trademark and/or copyright, Redskin is no longer ‘disparaging’?
That judge’s judgment seemed impaired.

This is puzzling. I thought that banning the Confederate flag was supposed to atone for all racism and all white guilt, forevermore.Banning the stars and bars is only the camel's nose under the tent.

Judge Bruce Lee, your name is disparaging to martial arts practitioners.

Now....wouldn’t the registration of the logo be a separate thing from the registration of the name “Washington Redskins” as a trademark?

Do we even need laws anymore? The government of bureaucrats, regulators, cops, and judges will just tell us what to do from now on based on how how they feel.

Nope. Nothing is ever enough until we all report to the work camps.

Think about it, folks. Now that it is no longer legally protected ANYONE can print that image on any shirt along with ANY message they see fit.
How about if some entrepreneur floods the market with about 10 million of them so we can all wear them to say F-U to this jdge and his kind?

So now, EVERYONE has the right to print/sell Redskin attire? That would be the unintended result if the ruling stands.

The gist of the ruling is: "We're going to cancel this trademark because it MAY be offensive to someone".
Well, Barack Obama's trademark IS offensive to me - so are they going to cancel it, too?
And now that I've mentioned it, just about any trademark may be offensive to someone. So let's cancel ALL trademarks.
