Some time after I bought my first gun, I got a robocall from the National Rifle Association, asking me to join. After the customary Please stay on the line from a pleasant but earnest voice, I recoiled from the barkings of an angry-sounding man: Did I know that Barack Hussein Obama and European leaders are meeting on American soil right now, at this very moment, to plot the confiscation of my guns?
The caller continued with his insinuations of an imminent United Nations plot against America, but before I could be handed off to a live operator, I hung up the phone.
I was amused, and then insulted, that someone would think I was dumb enough to fall for such a pitch. But the sad truth is that there are enough people willing to open their checkbooks to make such a noxious fundraising appeal worthwhile.
The NRA claims to have 5 million dues-paying members (though theres some reason to believe this figure is inflated). That sounds formidable, until one considers that there are approximately 50 million adults who own firearms. Still, the organization has successfully positioned itself as the singular representation of gun owners. For decades, it has worked to defend and expand access to firearms in spite of polls showing that most Americans, including gun owners, favor laws that would limit access in various reasonable ways (even three-quarters of NRA households favor background checks prior to private gun sales). But when a U.S. congresswoman was shot in the face, the NRA made certain that no law was passed that would have made her safer. Theres no doubt that the NRA does have some grass-roots support, but its smaller than we think. The NRA does not represent all gun owners, and it certainly doesnt represent me.

Why is this SH%$ even posted. They are obviously trolls looking for attention, so why give it to them?
Hey “gun owner” Fellerath,
If you’re insulted by a membership pitch, your skin’s too thin or you’re an idiot. Then again, if you bought your “first” firesarm and are not aware of the anti-gun assault on your freedoms, then you are an idiot.
I guess the math is there. You are an idiot.
>>> I Own Guns. But I Hate the NRA. <<<
As soon as someone says “I Hate ... “ you know that they’re thinking with their gonads and that any argument or discussion that follows is based on emotion rather than reason.
I personally dislike NRA phone calls because of this: it lowers an intellectual argument to the lowest common denominator.
What pure troll attempt to divide, isolate and target the NRA. This article is as stupid as the Mittens summit meeting with Jeb and Marco. We may well disagree on some issues, but the bottom line is not more gun laws. It is that the ones that exist are not Constitutional. If gay marriage can come from hedonist longings, then the written guarantee in the Constitution to keep the government from regulating our bearing arms, is a no brainer.
“Typical Liberal? Guns for me, no guns for thee”
His are “good guns”, other people’s are evil.
“I don’t own a gun, I gave up the gun I used to earn my living more than 30 years ago. I was dry firing and “empty” gun 45° from my infant son being changed on a tableBAM!the emtpy gun went off. I got rid of it. (Twenty percent of officer shootings are self-inflicted & 15% are partner inflicted.)
I hate guns, I was following Gabriel Giffords before she was shot because I was trying to understand libertarians who are pro-choice. I was aghast when she was shot, false accusations against Sarah Palin notwithstanding.
I don’t want to get a gun, but I’m feeling compelled to get one. Before I do, I will be in the weird position of joining the NRA without owning a gun.
I don’t ever want to shoot an assailant, I’d rather take the consequences, but I have responsibilities, I have to protect the lives of innocent people.
The NRA was started to protect the lives of freed African-American slaves during Reconstruction. As late as the 1960s, segregationist Democrats were opposing equity and justice for African-Americans. It was the now-faithless Republicans who supported African-Americans.”
... ok. Happily no one is trying to force you to own a gun.
What were you drinking?
One should not dry fire with a loaded gun.
One should learn how to unload a weapon. Hint: You don't do it by pulling the trigger.
I don't believe you "earned your living" with weapon and then gave it up. This would ring true, if you had stated you quit your job which required you be be armed; or that you left your duty weapon in your locked locker at work; or, ... As stated, it sounds made up.
What drugs were you using?
Weird thing is, he's on the faculty of Ole Miss and is a staunch defender of the Confederate Flag.
“But when a U.S. congresswoman was shot in the face, the NRA made certain that no law was passed that would have made her safer.”
When I read nonsensical crap like this, I quit reading. The assertion of unsupportable conclusions is not reasoning.
Is he dumb? No..
Will he last long in a series event? I doubt it.
Will he feeeel differently after he realizes who our real enemies are?
Does anyone here have any knowledge and/or experience with the Remington 700 .338 Win 'Magnum' shooting the .338 WinMag round or the .338 Lapua round. Have an opportunity to pick up a used in excellent shape for a very fair price. Comments welcomed.
Thank you for your ill informed opinion. Next!
both will be expensive to shoot. Reloading will offset that considerably. I would go for the Lapua personally. Brass is more readily available from what i have seen. I’m planning on getting a savage in .338 Lapua at some point.
One last question. Do re-leaders have to have a license or certifications from the BATFE or a license to buy the powder?
As far as powder goes, no, you don't need any kind of BATFE license or anything but you had better know what you're doing when you're messing with a cartridge like that or you might end up with a broken rifle or worse. There are a lot of considerations that you have to account for.
Perhaps I'll find myself some reading material. Don't want to be a sniper but I thought it just might come in handy one day in a SHTF situation. I live in a plain area, no mountains or hills but windy at times and humid all the time. A Gulf Coast region state.
I know what Obama and Lynch will do - just like Holder - ignore the Constitution.
End of problem.
Thanks. I’ll look him up. The analogy about sniping was incorrect. I have an opportunity to go hunt some Elk this winter and was told by my host that I may need to get out to anywhere from 300 to around 700 meters. Never shot quite that far before. Thanks for your help. Appreciate it.
