Scott Walker files papers to run for president

Gov. Scott Walker is making it official that he is running for president — sort of.

Wisconsin's Republican governor filed papers with the Federal Election Commission Thursday "after hearing from countless Americans" during his testing the waters stage, an aide said.

"While I have not yet announced whether I will be a candidate for President of the United States, I have received contributions of more than $5,000 within the last 15 days," Walker wrote in a Thursday letter to the FEC. "Should I formally announce, I will seek the Republican nomination for the office of President of the United States in the 2016 election."

Rather than filing what's known as a "statement of candidacy," he instead filed a "statement of organization" for a committee named Scott Walker Inc.

He is set to make his formal announcement in Waukesha on July 13, a date first reported by Daniel Bice of the Journal Sentinel.

"After hearing from countless Americans during the Testing the Waters phase, Governor Walker this morning will file his papers of candidacy with the FEC," the aide said in an email.

Walker is also expected to provide a glimpse at the first of nine pieces of the Walker for president logo Thursday night on Instagram, with a new piece being revealed each day.

Walker has for months been stepping up his travel around the country and internationally, and hiring political staff members, ahead of his 2016 bid.

Walker's plans to file Thursday were first reported by Politico.

Do we really have to call FReepers “bots” just because we don’t support their candidate? None of them are perfect. Walker’s been a good governor who’s stuck it to the RATS and unions. If you like someone else better fine.

Walker? I’d rather vote for a mangy dog. Or Christie. Same thing.

I’m so tired of this. I suspect that even Ted Cruz has some closet RINOS on his campaign staff as well as everyone else. Let’s get the debates rolling so we can judge which of these candidates will truly govern and implement conservative principles. If it’s Ted Cruz that the majority of the GOP wants then so be it, and I frankly could care less if Bozo the Clown or Mitt Romney were on his campaign staff. I mean we all admire Ronald Reagan but he did pick a big time RINO in old man Bush as VP and his wingman James Baker as his Chief of Staff. Right now I just want the best conservative to get the nomination. This is why we never beat the left because we nitpick ourselves to death expecting purity among our candidates.

Most are locals and who knows what their reason is for running. Bragging
rights, etc maybe. They may get a few bucks in donations, who knows.

Ad hominem attack. You lose automatically. Why even use that kind of language with fellow FReepers?

We're just robots, unthinking and programmed? It's a garbage insult in that it's not true and it doesn't even form an argument. Really foolish talk.

Walker is far from perfect, but I do believe he is the most conservative of the candidates who actually has a chance to win the general election. I like Cruz but he has yet to show he can get the numbers even in the primary let alone the general.

We better want some mercenaries in our foxhole. This is a battle we’re in.
The GOP STILL doesn't get that and the Republic will go down in flames - with the GOP used as kindling.
Reminds me of Kodak when Fuji started eating into their film sales big time.
At one meeting I made the comment that we (Kodak) were in a war and had had such a monopoly for so many years, we had forgotten how to fight.
My "superiors" didn't care for the war analogy and I was labeled a "wave maker."
