An Illinois school board reportedly fired the teacher who stepped on an American flag in class on May 15 at a local high school.
The Mattoon Journal Gazette reports that the Martinsville school board voted unanimously Thursday to dismiss English teacher Jordan Parmenter, effective immediately.
Parmenter, 26, told the paper Sunday he was present in the meeting, where he was addressed by the board and answered questions from all six of the board members. Parmenter didnt speak further into the matter until he had a chance to speak with a union representative.

Good.....there seems to be some sanity left in down state Illinois.
The name is interesting: “Par-Mentor”
Seems about right for a public school teacher.
Wonder what would have happened if he said he was anti-gay marriage as his free speech example.
But conservatives don't have equal protection.
Good. About time America-haters got a taste of their own medicine.
Well......Bye.
If he stepped on a Mexican flag , it would be adios
It's been around for years. We actually did a play in drama class back in the '80s that was based on this story.
Public school teachers...scum of the USA
Don't jump to conclusions. There's still a court case to be had, and the complainers charged with "hate."
The teacher did get fired, be thankful for that much, but still, look at the kind of people drawn to teaching now.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
There are VERY good public school teachers, but they get no,or very little, support from parents and school administration
Years ago I pocked up a NEA mag while in a hotel lobby. After reading a few articles I made up my mind. I told my children if they ever decided to become public school teachers I wouldnt pay for their college education and they would be disowned.
They are grown now, finished college and well into their careers. All with fine jobs in the private sector.
Im sure there may be good public teachers but 99% of them make the rest look bad!
Good news that the teacher was fired.
