The New York Post has learned that NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio is going to “ramp” up the city’s war against smoking…at home.
If you live in New York, here is where you city tax dollars are going:
The administration is planning to select and pay four health-advocacy groups $9,000 apiece to pressure landlords and developers to prohibit smoking in their apartment complexes so neighboring tenants dont inhale secondhand smoke.
And the result of this campaign is:
…smokers would be barred from lighting up in one of their last sanctuaries: their own living quarters. Smoking is already banned in public places, including bars and restaurants, workplaces, sports venues and parks.
Health department commissars say, “Everyone benefits from smoke-free housing. Residents enjoy breathing cleaner, healthier air in their homes . . . while owners see reductions in property damage and turnover costs.”
So it’s for your own good.
Right now, the initiative is voluntary — but it won’t be for long as these nanny-staters love to micromanage your life. I wonder what other things de Blasio plans to regulate in your own home.

Liberals just make me want to chew nails. Good grief. Is there no end to all this progressive madness?
At what point will the tobacco companies retaliate?
Scumbag smokes pot with his family in his house!
Fortunately, he has ZERO say over what I do in my own home in Virginia.
And if he’s thinking about trying something here I recommend he talk to Bloomberg about what happens to NYC mayors who try to infringe on the rights of people in Virginia.
(Of course, we DO have a far-left AG right now, so maybe he’d get away with it - for a while)
In the end, though, he should take a look at the Virginia flag before deciding to f-— with us. Ours is the only state flag with a dead guy on it. Sic Semper Tyrannis, a—hole.
As for the poor victims, I mean citizens, of NYC, all I can do is pray for you.
Are not the Democrats all about freedom of choice?
One more reason why I would never want to live in an apartment or condo.
RE: One more reason why I would never want to live in an apartment or condo
Other than Manhattan ( which si filled with apartments and condo’s ), the other NYC Boroughs ( which De Blasio is still Mayor ) have HOUSES.
I think what De Blasio wants might include houses as well.
In all the years I’ve lived in NYC apts. I’ve never smelled smoke from another apt. Never.
This was predicted to happen back in the early nineties when the public bans were happening. It popped up here and there but with today’s whackos, I am sure this has a stronger foundation to actually become reality. If I recall a few years ago it was illegal to smoke in your own car in the presence of a child. The smokers I know already step outside their homes to smoke. they go into their garage with the garage door partially open or step out on their porch or back deck. Smokers are already self imposing this on themselves however that doesn’t necessarily mean a law has to be on the books. Heard this one too: “And before you know it they will make a law on the air we breathe.”
RE: In all the years Ive lived in NYC apts. Ive never smelled smoke from another apt. Never.
Maybe it’s because your neighbors don’t smoke?
No, that’s not it. My closets friends in NYC are smokers.
It's happening more or less as Orwell described.
Your closet has friends? The question was regarding your neighbors not your friends unless your neighbors are among your friends.
Why never live in rack and stack housing.
His wet dream would be a requirement for a city approved smoke detector installed in your home that is specially geared to tobacco smoke and it records the instances of tobacco in the home. You would have to get it checked yearly to get home owners insurance. If it shows tobacco use your rates skyrocket or your are even denied insurance. Think of it like getting your house smogged yearly like your car. That would make De Blasio aka Wilhelm salivate.
and I’d like to see DeBlasio have a heart attack,
so!
