AIRO Egypts top prosecutor died on Monday of wounds he sustained when a powerful bomb detonated next to his car as he was driving to work, state news media reported.
The prosecutor, Hisham Barakat, is the most senior Egyptian official to be killed since insurgents began a wave of violent attacks against the military-backed government nearly two years ago.
At least seven other people, including two bystanders, were hurt in the attack, which incinerated several cars, in a residential area of the capitals Heliopolis neighborhood.
Gen. Osama Bedeir, the head of Cairo security, said the explosive device was planted in a parked car and detonated by remote control. In September 2013, Egypts interior minister at the time, Mohamed Ibrahim, survived a similar attack on his convoy in Cairo.
After the explosion, Egyptian officials initially said that Mr. Barakats wounds were not life-threatening, and included lacerations to his face and a dislocated shoulder.
Ahmed Shazly, who witnessed the bombing on Monday, said that Mr. Barakat left for work every morning in a two-car convoy that apparently included an armored vehicle. Residents in the area, including Mr. Shazlys doorman, were hurt by flying glass, he said.

He was a brave man. RIP
The government of Egypt needs to start executing the Muslim Brotherhood prisoners as quickly as possible.
If people think things are ugly in the region now, imagine what a civil war breaking out in Egypt will do.
Obama is engaged in an effort to return the Muslim Brotherhood to power. Can’t establish a link to this bomb, but Obama and his Islamist inner circle will be pleased.
Their buddies took out Sadat a long time ago.
Somebody allowed a truckload of men with AK-47’s and grenades to be part of the parade line.

Originally the wounds were not life-threatening. But then he died.
Was the initial prognosis that far off the mark, or was Mr. Barakat killed?
Agreed. I guess the sad thing is that we are not giving more support to Egyptians like him.
But then, Obama isn’t on their side.
He isn't on ours, either.
I know where there is one they can have.
Do we have PROOF the Blind Sheik is still in U.S. custody?
I don’t think he’s paying them anything, because they have already denounced him as supporting the MB...something downplayed by the US media, of course.
We have no proof of anything - that the Blind Sheik is in US custody, that bin Laden is really dead, etc.
January 2014, that is.

Let me know if you want on or off this Ping List.
The Egyptians won’t back down from this war. They will find the people who did it and both they and their families will pay dearly.
They know exactly who they are dealing with and how to deal with them. -And this reporting reads like an administration agitprop piece. This won’t ‘deal a blow” to the Al Sisi government or the army. They will use this as a reason to hit the enemy harder.
Obama helped make this war happen and lots of people are dying because of it.
