After Decades Of Doubt, Deregulation Delivers Lower Electricity Prices
http://www.forbes.com/sites/williampentland/2013/10/13/after-decades-of-doubt-deregulation-delivers-lower-electricity-prices/

More than two decades ago, federal and state governments began dismantling electric utilities’ monopoly on generating electric power.

...After a decade of doubt, it has done precisely that.

The trouble is that while wholesale power prices have fallen dramatically, retail power prices have soared. This dynamic may drive a second and more aggressive era of deregulation.

Before deregulation, power was expensive and the grid was cheap. Today, the converse is true. Power is cheap. The grid is not....

"The EPA had argued that the rules are both appropriate and necessary regardless of the costs"

Wow...

Exactly. The government agencies will still require it for a license to operate the facility.

Good example.

My power plant my husband worked at just laid off 1/4 of their workforce. They have an old plant (but the biggest non-nuclear plant in CA) and the carbon credits are taking away any profit they may have had. The plan is to forestall paying the credits, hoping the energy market will change before the payment is due. If not....bankruptcy. These plants owned by small companies have no choice.

And imagine when that plant - the biggest non-nuclear plant in the state - and many others shut down. Costs will ‘necessarily skyrocket’. It’s not even a coal plant but a ‘clean’ gas turbine plant.

I’d be surprised if Scalia waits. He has to figure that his staying on is pointless.

“Power companies, despite their pandering protests, love these mandates. Since they are a government controlled monopoly they are guaranteed a “reseanable” return on their investment. Every government diktat from any level is a way of raising costs that results in a return on a larger base.”

Depends on your definition of ‘power company.’ Places like PG&E, yes. Individual power plants, no. It’s the utilities raking in the bucks.

Won't see this on the network news, they are still celebrating the best week of Obama’s presidency

The week began with Obama winning a trade fight over fast-track negotiating authority that looked to be on thin ice even a week ago. He did so by pulling off something even more remarkable and unlikely: successfully collaborating with Republican congressional leaders to find a path to passage of a rare shared priority.

With help from the Repubs Obozo had his best week ever. WHY VOTE? Anyone listen to The Bill Cunningham show Sunday evening? That is all Cunningham could say when interviewing his guests - "WHY SHOULD I VOTE FOR "Republicans"

Read more Washington Compost trash at link above about Obie's BEST WEEK Ever.

It will be ignored. So, no victory.

These days FR us full of punks like you posting defeat and despair immediately, crying hopelessness the moment any good news appears.

Just want to point you out for the DU Leftist infiltrator mind-f###er you really are.

This decision will be ignored. The damage is already done. This lawless and corrupt regime only calls judgments in their favor as “the law of the land”.

See my post #56 and apply it to yourself as well.

E. Pluribus Unum: Doesn't matter.

rigelkentaurus: this is a small, tiny, irrelevant, narrow ruling, which will be dully noted and ignored.

x_plus_one: Too little too late. No power company will restart, reopen or plan new ventures due to one flimsy supreme court ruling.

Y'all can cram my Post #56 where the sun don't shine.

You mean the ones other people take so they let people like you whisper despair in their ears?

No thanks.
