Heres something you wont read about in the US history books. The first legal slave owner in America was black and he owned white slaves.
Anthony Johnson (BC 1600 1670) was an Angolan who achieved freedom in the early 17th century Colony of Virginia.
Johnson was captured in his native Angola by an enemy tribe and sold to Arab (Muslim) slave traders. He was eventually sold as an indentured servant to a merchant working for the Virginia Company.
Sometime after 1635, Antonio and Mary gained their freedom from indenture. Antonio changed his name to Anthony Johnson.
In 1651 Anthony Johnson owned 250 acres, and the services of four white and one black indentured servants. The black indentured servant John Casor (Casar, Cazarao and Corsala) demanded that Johnson release him after his seven years of indenture.
In March of 1654, according to Delmarva Settlers, Anthonys servant, a man named John Casar requested that Johnson release him from his indenture because it had long expired past the usual seven years. Johnson replied that he knew of no indenture and that Casar was to be his servant for life. Anthony Johnsons neighbors, George and Robert Parker, stated that they knew of another indenture for the said Casar to a planter on the other side of the bay.

Yes, I did.
Capitalism at it’s worst
History is so interesting.
Time to ban Black appreciation month, and every monument to blacks.
I don't have time to gather citations right now, but I believe it is axiomatic that all races have been enslaved at some point in history. So as bad as slavery is, no race can claim unique suffering. At most, American blacks can claim the most recent suffering, Anthony Johnson notwithstanding. To lay this degree of mortal blame at the feet of a single nation for a global practice that long preceded it is sophistry for some other purpose.
The first guy to own a slave in Africa was also black.
White slaves, huh. REPARATION! REPARATION!
Yea I did, and he was one of the richest People in the region.
I didn’t know this.
“Anthony Johnson is not really a great example if youre trying to make some sort of racial equality about slavery. “
Yes, he is. He started it all in 1655. Slavery was outlawed prior to his demand to enslave a fellow African.
That's nonsense. His was the first (civil) judicial decision affirming the right to own a slave (there had been previous criminal cases where defendants had been sentenced to slavery), but it is simply not the case that slavery was "outlawed" prior to his case.
“That’s nonsense”
Well that settles that. Can’t argue with stupid and arrogant.
Way to ignore the rest of the post. Probably because you couldn’t argue with facts, either. Anything to back up your claim that slavery was outlawed before this guy?
