Columnist George Will called MIT professor Jonathan Gruber the gift that keeps on giving to Obamacare opponents Monday after new emails show that the White House downplayed his role in crafting the law.
Appearing on Special Report, Will tied Gruber to the upcoming Supreme Court decision on Obamacare subsidies, saying well read the opinion in light of Grubers comments. The syndicated columnist made the comments after the House Oversight Committee released 20,000 pages of emails between Gruber and Obama administration officials.
GEORGE WILL: Well, Mr. Gruber is, for opponents of the Affordable Care Act, the gift that keeps on giving. What the emails say he is important. Well, he should have been. The Department of Health and Human Services paid him almost $400,000 for whatever he did. This matters because either Thursday or a week from today, on Monday of next week, the supreme court will hand down an opinion as to whether the Affordable Care Act should be read as written. That is, should be read that subsidies can only be delivered through exchanges established by the states

Oh how I'd love to have ten minutes with this guy.
I can name that tune in 4 minutes
The language is unambiguous and crystal clear. There is no reasonable way to read it other than what it says. The Roberts court would have to jump through ridiculous logical hoops in order to interpret it otherwise. Which is precisely what they will do. Before they are done they will go down as one of the most politicized kangaroo courts in American history, you heard it hear first. Too bad Alito, Thomas, and Scalia are stuck tied to Roberts who appears (whether true or not) to be bought and sold by Obama.
Uh, George, what does it give us? Nothing. Those of us paying attention knew exactly what the bill meant for the U.S. Now that we know Gruber was intimately involved how does that change anything?
Well, after paying $2 billion on a website that didn't work, that is a bargain. At lease Gruber told the truth one time.
Democrats will rue the day they cheered for this ruling if it goes there way. Can you imagine all future courts deciding cases by what they think Congress meant to say? I thought Republicans should have submitted a sense of Congress Resolution to the Court that said essentially that Congress understands its lawmaking role and that laws should be read with full respect to the language used. In all situations, the actual language must prevail.
after paying $2 billion on a website that didn’t work
***************
The website worked perfectly ,, gave the illusion of a working methodology while providing no benefit... forced people to demand delays and waivers ,, another win for Obummer ,, gave the law a few years to age and embed while few people were directly impacted.. got him past 2012 didn’t it?
Oh , and the Obummer stooge friends that made the website.. How much have they made? How much was returned as campaign donations.
If the court rules in favor of Obama care it no longer has any vestige of legitimacy. It would then become a patriotic act to defy the court.
Many cases are decided on legislative intent. Granted unusual in SCOTUS cases but at state level it is very common.
