(CNN)Walmart, the country's largest retailer, will remove all Confederate flag merchandise from its stores, the company told CNN Monday.
The announcement is the latest indication that the flag, a symbol of the slave-holding South, has become toxic in the aftermath of a shooting last week at a historic African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina. Gov. Nikki Haley announced in a Monday afternoon news conference that she supports removing the Confederate flag from the state capitol grounds.
Walmart.com currently carries the Confederate flag as well as attire featuring the flag's design, such as T-shirts and belt buckles.
"We never want to offend anyone with the products that we offer. We have taken steps to remove all items promoting the confederate flag from our assortment -- whether in our stores or on our web site," said Walmart spokesman Brian Nick. "We have a process in place to help lead us to the right decisions when it comes to the merchandise we sell. Still, at times, items make their way into our assortment improperly -- this is one of those instances."

Dukes of Hazard merchandise? Charlie Daniels CDs?
America is entering a state of full dementia.
Everyone led around like trained seals by whatever Leftist meme the media handmaidens broadcast. There’s no way this nation will survive. Weak, spineless, subserviant. If Putin or China or Isis were smart, they’d all go for the gold right now. America is a dead nation walking.
Walmart also went whole hog (so to speak) with the pro-gay agenda in Arkansas a few weeks ago. Ted Cruz is right. Corporate America is not evil rich conservative. It is evil rich liberal.
Jesus H. Jones, Walmart was THE go to place for Confederate merchandise!
What will Goober do!!!!
Finally, we will become a perfect world.
I buy them at the flea market a stack at a time. Just grab them with no attention to color.
If I find a really gay one I wait for the neighbor’s large dog to come around and tie it to his neck.
We should all go to Walmart and start asking for Confederate flags and memoribilia. Ask the store managers, assistant manager, and department managers for the items and act like you want a bunch of them. Do it in every state and watch the wheels start spinning in their heads about how much profit they’ll be missing. We’ll see how long they stay PC. Bet ya money wins in the end...
The media go into a frenzy and people just follow. Hitler would be s proud of how most of the country has become a nation of lost sheep.
Why is no one pointing out the atrocities of both flags, why are they hiding, this is pathetic.
It was the party of the Confederacy.
ONE PEOPLE
ONE GOVERNMENT
ONE LEADER
Now if Wal mart would stop selling crazy SSRI’S in the phamecey
Got my battle flags from the flea market , half the price too.
I have got shirts from Dixie outfitters for my kids who love them.
Walmart caved to the PC crowd years ago. They used to sell little Confederate flags and all the moon pies you wanted to eat. They quit selling both probably 15 years ago. What they sell is all the homosexual garbage you can think of. I used to shop at Walmart. I quit. Now you’re buying produce from Mexico and cheap clothes from Vietnam. To hell with Walmart. It started going to hell when Sam Walton died.
Just amazing that the Confederate flag wasn’t an issue during Bill Clinton’s presidential run.
It sounds so much like what they did with all the agreements signed with the Native Americans. White man speaks with a forked tongue, indeed!
Who gives a chit about Walmart? We don’t shop there anymore. Its a defacto outlet for China.
George Washington, the father of our slave-holding nation, has a monument on the mall. If it is discovered that the monument offends someone, will it be removed from public property. If not, why not?
Some bright young entrepreneur will set up an online store and make a lot of mula.
Give it time. Give it time.
