Republican strategist Karl Rove said on Fox News Sunday the only way to stop gun-related violence, like the Wednesday massacre at Emmanuel African Methodist Church in Charleston S.C., was to repeal American citizens Second Amendment rights.rWhat do you think?
When Chris Wallace asked Rove how we can, stop the violence, the long-time gun-rights advocate stated that we have made great strides as a nation in empathizing with the victims of these types of shootings, but the only way to guarantee they will stop is to remove guns from society.r1
WALLACE: How do we stop the violence?rWhat do you think?
ROVE: I wish I had an easy answer for that, but I dont think theres an easy answerrWhat do you think?
We saw an act of evil. Racist, bigoted evil, and to me the amazing thing is that it was met with grief and love. Think about how far weve come since 1963. The whole weight of the government throughout the South was to impede finding and holding and bringing to justice the men who perpetrated the [Birmingham] bombing.rWhat do you think?
And here, we saw an entire state, an entire community, an entire nation come together, grieving as one and united in the belief that this was an evil act, so weve come a long way.rWhat do you think?
Now maybe theres some magic law that will keep us from having more of these. I mean basically the only way to guarantee that we will dramatically reduce acts of violence involving guns is to basically remove guns from society, and until somebody gets enough oomph to repeal the Second Amendment, thats not going to happen.

This outright lie flies in the face of Civics 101 and math.
Repealing the Second Amendment needs to happen because Prohibition and the War on Drugs were such huge successes.
Utterly, 100% INCORRECT. Incorrect on the facts and the intent.
He said, and I quote: "I mean basically the only way to guarantee that we will dramatically reduce acts of violence involving guns is to basically remove guns from society, and until somebody gets enough oomph to repeal the Second Amendment, thats not going to happen."
He's SUPPORTING the liberal argument that to reduce gun violence, you have to remove guns from society.
He's LEAVING OUT that there are many other forms of violence that do not involve guns. He's LEAVING OUT that more times than not guns are PROTECTING lives. He's LEAVING OUT that other countries with absolute gun bans still have mass shootings.
He's gone ALL IN on the liberal argument.
The paranoia on FR is a foot deep. There will be no executive orders or changes in the constitution and at least half the country (along with Rove) knows that.
Oh! Phew! Yeah, I was worried for a while. I mean, I almost thought we'd have a Socialized Medicine law pushed through someday! I almost thought we'd have an out of control rogue President that ignored courts, constitutional limits, and congress! I almost thought we'd see congress and the senate pass laws they never actually read!
But all that would just be rampant paranoia, huh?
...and people actually wonder why I say FR has been invaded by liberals.
We’ll never stop all gun violence. Especially those willing to commit suicide after the act. But how about we limit the appeal process to two years before execution? Maybe a steady stream of executions by firing squad will serve as a deterrent to many.
Maybe lawyers and judges should have to work their butts off and quit delaying and filing continuances and such.
So a government that mocks, belittles and makes fun of me and things I consider sacred all while forcing their unpopular, unConstitutional laws, rules and regulations on me now wants me to be disarmed?
That sounds like a bad idea to me.
Course I’m just a stupid racist, sexist, homophobic, teabagger.
Before guns, people killed with swords. Before swords people killed with their hands and rocks.
All removing guns will do is create more brutally violent murder. History shows that humans will kill with whatever is at hand, or with hands when manufactured weaponry is not available.
The war on drugs led to meth, crocodile and all matter of shed brewed chemocals that make coke and Heroin look like Tylenol.
Prohibition made moonshine the drink of choice.
This is about agenda. Nothing more. People can choose to vote for that agenda or not. If they choose to back those connected to the idea they deserve to be shunned. they are not American much less conservative Americans.
I disagree....what good does it do to not vote????
If one at the very least votes with a write in or leave black even he has still given his voice. If not...his voice is taken and given to the winner every time.
Thats just your rampant paranoia.
I am not saying not to vote. I am saying that if you vote for X, then under no math or legal vote count does Y get that vote.
We should vote. If we have to write in, we should write in. But Barry did not gain from me not voting GOP. The GOP and America lost because they ran a Liberal. Barry is in the WH because conservatives refused to vote for a liberal. Had the lesser evils joined us in standing on principle, neither Barry nor Romney would have won, the party would not have said that tens of millions of votes was a mandate to move left and America would not be in this mess.
And I promise everyone that since there are more of us than there were last time, no liberal will be elected under the GOP banner. If that results in Hillary, so be it. It is the job of the lesser evils to vote with us because we are not voting for a liberal Republican, much less a gun grabber.
No matter what.
I didn’t see the interview, but it sounds like Rove is being misrepresented. It might be true that the only way to stop gun violence is to (somehow) purge society of guns, but that does not necessarily mean that Rove is advocating that. He might just be saying that gun violence is the price we pay for the freedom to have guns, just like auto fatalities are the price we pay for having cars.
Thats the thing about being right. Sometimes you do it alone. But you’re still right ;)
In case you haven't noticed Free Speech has already died. Every day we hear about some poor sucker that thought free speech was a right, has lost his job because the said the wrong thing.
As long as they are going to accuse us (gun-owners) of being dangerous, then we better BE DANGEROUS.
The merger of republicans and democrats into one big Establishment Uniparty is complete.
I don’t like that SOB Castro one bit, but he hasn’t been San Antonio’s mayor for over a year. Your arguments will be more effective if you cite actual facts.
More on topic, guns will never disappear in this country, no matter what the law says...but if some law tries to actually do that, the criminal class will jump by many millions in an instant.
It’s already been done for an assault rifle. Digital blueprints and kit instructions are available.
However, the argument - You people are pathetic. You are given a choice between a 9mm round to the temple, or a .40 caliber round to the temple, and you happily vote for the 9mm... seems illogical.
It supposes when we enter the voting booth there are two tyrants on the ballot, and they simply wear a different color suit. That is not the case, of course, because there remain good American politicians within the group AKA "lesser evil" that offer hope for the future.
It would be more accurate to say the choice is a fully loaded .40 or a six round revolver loaded with a single .9mm round - and, if you do not vote, you or eventually your children, will spend the rest of your life in a camp.
I submit that would be an easy choice.
(This is a hit and run post; have a nice weekend.)
I’ve got to hear him say that in his own words, not a transcript. Is he seriously advocating repeal of the 2nd amendment and does he seriously think that that will stop gun violence?! Whether I agreed with his ideas or not, I’ve always thought Rove was generally level-headed but this is so far over the top, I wonder if he is being taken out of context. The idea of no guns is impossible and leaves criminals and militarized police/government with the guns. That results in more mass murders, it results in the carnage we see around the world where criminals and terrorists run amok because no one is there to stop them. We do not have enough police, plus, personally, I don’t trust the cops and would not want to leave the safety of my family and myself in their hands. If Rove really meant what he appears to have said, he just announced his retirement from politics, unless this is his first step to joining the Democratic party.
