BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- 10-year-old Lily Hornish loves fishing. So her family took her on a trip to Ketchikan, Alaska, in the hope of catching a halibut.
But the shy angler wasn't expecting to catch one so big.
"It was the first bait down, then my pole was tugging," Lily said. "I started reeling it in and then my dad helped me. And then a big fish came out."
A big fish that weighed 333 pounds, to be exact.

75lbs is my biggest.
I bet she went fishing just for no good reason at all.
River Monsters did a show on people in Alaska disappearing while fishing.
Upshoot was they were hooking into Halibut, big ones, who pulled them in and down. I suppose the treacherous currents did the rest. Evidently Halibut are known to be fighters.
Great story, thanks.
I love it. The fishing G-ds are often kind to the young. ;-)
Wow! Great story!
“You should have seen the one that got away.”
“That thing is monstrous.”
Yes. 333 lbs. vs what, 100 lbs conservative for the girl? A 10-year old girl. OK. Sure. (cough)
God I love Halibut than any other fist, especially with melted Butter. =) so expensive though but worth it. =)
Let me see...blackened...deep fried...broiled...sauteed...oh my...need that freezer in the basement.
Dang, I just got back from the Bahamas where I caught a 40 pound snapper....sheesh....that Halibut is a MON-STER!!!
Whats for dinner?
Halibut..
Again?
I suspect dad more than helped a little
When asked why she liked fishing instead of playing with dolls she replied,
“I just like to do it for the halibut”...
Just for the halibut...
Good size!
Congratulations, young lady!
I remember all the flounder I caught as a boy from the Cape Cod Canal, and the fluke and sole from a jetty from the Connecticut shore into Long Island Sound.
Happy eating, folks!
I knew that joke would eventually show up somewhere.
Just for the halibut, I'm sure...
