US Catholics ready to follow Pope's 'marching orders' on climate change

Leaders of the Catholic Church in America took their “marching orders” from the Pope’s encyclical on Thursday, fanning out to Congress and the White House to push for action on climate change.

The high-level meetings offered a first glimpse of a vast and highly organised effort by the leadership of America’s nearly 80 million Catholics to turn the Pope’s moral call for action into reality.

“It is our marching orders for advocacy,” Joseph Kurtz, the president of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Archbishop of Louisville, said. “It really brings about a new urgency for us.”

They already have. Each of them "real" (even though there is seemingly as much range of opinion of what is to be "believed" and how exactly that should be believed, as there can be among so-called "protestants") while some are more Catholic than the Pope, perhaps.

Nowadays...would being more Catholic than the Pope mean the same thing it meant 50 years ago?

Or is that phrase losing some of it's sting?

More "catholic' than the Pope could as well apply to some Protestants, depending upon how one defined 'catholic', I think.

Maybe some, at least, of those so-called "Protestants" of the 15th, 16th, 17th and centuries who were often (made!) painfully aware of the difference between catholic and Catholic, were on to something.

Who am I kidding? There is no "maybe" about it...

I feel like I have a sense of responsibility to be as, as gentle and kind and, in my case, Christian as possible.
