The American dream is dead, but I will bring it back: Donald Trump announces for President

Donald Trump is running for president. The multi-billionaire announced his presidential plans today from his namesake tower in New York City. Trump, 69, was introduced by his daughter Ivanka as he formally declared his 2016 intentions, descending down an escalator with wife Melania to speak to the gathered crowd. In his remarks he attacked the Obama administration on everything from immigration and terrorism to Obamacare and the job market as he promised to bring back the American dream. He also released his financial information, revealing a net worth of $8.7billion.

'We need somebody that literally will take this country and make it great again. We can do that,' said Trump. I will be the greatest jobs president God ever created 'Ladies and gentlemen, I am officially running for president of the United States, and we are going to make our country great again.'

As for what he could do for the country, Trump said he would be the 'greatest jobs president God ever created.' He then added; 'The fact is, the American Dream is dead - but if I win, I will bring it back bigger and better and stronger than ever before.'

As for Obamacare, Trump called the program a 'disaster.' 'ObamaCare must be repealed and replaced with something far superior and at far less cost,' he said in his remarks.

Trump also put much of the focus of his speech on the issue of immigration.

The fact is, the American Dream is dead - but if I win, I will bring it back bigger and better and stronger than ever before. 'It is way past time to build a massive wall to secure our southern border - and nobody can build a bigger and better wall than Donald Trump,' said Trump.

Norm doesn’t speak for me, further more I ignore blowhards like him, and I suspect most here do too.

I’m getting in trouble here for saying positive things about Trump. Be careful. Those who’ve chosen their messiahs already, won’t dismantle their newly formed religions very easily

I believe what most people here are saying is that Donald Trump is a clown, while Cruz/Walker/etc. are not clowns. There's a lot of space between "not clown" and messiah.

But since your apparent candidate of choice always speaks in Reality TV-style hyperbole, feel free to mimic him.

Actually, you don’t know what I meant. I meant what I said. And, as a seminary grad, retired Army chaplain, and current minister, my speaking is such language is really common for me.

Except I didn’t vote for Willard and won’t vote for Trump. As Ronnie said, your problem is you know so many things that aren’t so.

Trump is angry about things. We are angry about lots of things. He says he will build the fence. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy who will back down from that. If we don't get a handle on this America destroying flood, we are dead. His fence talk alone gets my attention. He is a businessman. He can't but help our job situation. In fact a Trump/Fiorina ticket is American, free enterprise, capitalist and strong on national defense. They understand how America works.I don't care if Trump gets a write-off or whatever tax hoops he is trying to jump through. Washington is so broken, what do we have to lose to put a real capitalist/businessman in the oval office? You know, there is a possibility he is really po'ed and wants to do what he can to fix it. Is he full of himself? Sure. Will he benefit personally? Sure he will. . But there's something in his voice that says this is more than just bluster.

It's a big we'll see. As long as he doesn't do a Perot and start a third party, I see it as an overall plus. You can see him in the debates. . "Hey, I said I'm gonna' build the fence. Are you?" Straight talk. .

I have no place said that I’d vote for Trump or that he’s my candidate of choice. I’ve said that he is a welcome addition, that he has some great strengths, and I’ve specifically said that he’ll get evaluated like all the rest: a list with pros and cons.

I don’t have a messiah in the race.

Yea all sorts of retired preachers throw around the M word to describe random people. Common really. Just not in the Christianity I’m aware of.

I didn’t say I spoke for other ministers. I said I spoke for me. Go read it again. (But, it wouldn’t surprise me....)

Vanity candidates who bring nothing to the table other than a desire to be famous are not a "welcome addition," especially when they're faux-populists who split the Tea Party vote and help Jeb get the nomination. We have something like 16 GOP candidates. Other than Lindsey Graham, almost all of them split the Tea Party vote rather than the establishment vote.

I don’t have a messiah in the race.

Neither do I. I'm not expecting a messiah in politics, that's asking too much. It's not asking too much to have a slightly higher standard than a sleazy clown from the Reality Show circuit.

Didn’t say you spoke for other preachers. But no preacher I ever encountered used the word ‘Messiah’ as a derogatory term to win an argument.

There’s very odd politics going on with TPA/TAA. As long as TAA & TPA doesn’t pass I am not going to judge votes on it. Presidents have had fast track trade authority since the 60’s. Problem is and rightly so -many don’t trust Ozero with it. Thankfully TAA was voted down, stalling TPA. TAA is a union bank roll and with blind luck TAA will not pass another vote, keeping TPA locked up. TPP is a treaty, confidential yes making many angry. No legislation should be confidential imho, but the precedence is there on treaties.

This country hasn’t had serious job growth in a decade, Giving Ozero TPA for 18 months isn’t going to do much of anything to help job creation. Keep it iced.

WHAT CONSERVATIVE? I was for Cruz until he decided he needed big donors and was willing to seel out on the trade issues.

This is the problem. They all need money and they always sell the voters out in order to get the money.

Then they bullcrap all of us in to believing we don’t see what we see ot that it really isn’t as bad as we have been hearing.

I do not like that.

I also never said I would vote for Trump. See, that is your problem. You think you always know what is in the mind of others when actually...you don’t.

At first glance I’m not seeing what the conservative objection would be to his candidacy. He isn’t an elected politician so it will take some time to flesh out his positions. He has no voting record to look at. From his website:

Donald J. Trump is the very definition of the American success story, continually setting the standards of excellence while expanding his interests in real estate, sports and entertainment. He is a graduate of the Wharton School of Finance. An accomplished author, Mr. Trump has authored over fifteen bestsellers, and his first book, The Art of the Deal, is considered a business classic and one of the most successful business books of all time.

During the 2014 political cycle, Mr. Trump was a top contributor and fundraiser for Republican efforts. Mr. Trump also campaigned across the country, with each candidate winning by a record margin.

Mr. Trump has over 7 million followers on social media. He frequently uses this platform to advocate for Conservative causes, Republican candidates and to educate the public on the failures of the Obama administration. Mr. Trump appears on Fox and Friends on Monday mornings and devotes much of his time to media interviews in order to promote a Free Market, the importance of a strong family, a culture of Life, a strong military and our country’s sacred obligation to take care of our veterans and their families.

Mr. Trump has long been a devoted supporter of veteran causes. In 1995, the fiftieth anniversary of World War II, only 100 spectators watched New York City’s Veteran Day Parade. It was an insult to all veterans. Approached by Mayor Rudy Giuliani and the chief of New York City’s FBI office, Mr. Trump agreed to lead as Grand Marshall a second parade later that year. Mr. Trump made a $1 million matching donation to finance the Nation’s Day Parade. On Saturday, November 11th, over 1.4 million watched as Mr. Trump marched down Fifth Avenue with more than 25,000 veterans, some dressed in their vintage uniforms. A month later, Mr. Trump was honored in the Pentagon during a lunch with the Secretary of Defense and the entire Joint Chiefs of Staff.

In New York City, the Trump signature is synonymous with the most prestigious of addresses, among them the world-renowned Fifth Avenue skyscraper, Trump Tower, the Trump International Hotel & Tower, Trump World Tower at the United Nations Plaza, 40 Wall Street, and Trump Park Avenue. His portfolio includes the historic Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida and his ever expanding collection of award-winning golf courses (seventeen thus far) which span the U.S from Los Angeles to New York, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., and Florida, and internationally from Scotland and Ireland to Dubai. He recently added the iconic golf resorts of Turnberry, Scotland, and Doonbeg, Ireland, to his portfolio and Trump National Golf Club Washington, DC, has been highly acclaimed. The Trump Hotel Collection has grown to include properties in Chicago, Las Vegas, Waikiki, Panama and Toronto in addition to Trump SoHo/New York and the acclaimed Trump International Hotel & Tower on Central Park West which once again won the coveted Mobil Five-Star Award as well as the Five Star Diamond Award from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences. The Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago was awarded the #1 Hotel in the US and Canada by Travel & Leisure Magazine. Recent acquisitions include the iconic Doral Hotel & Country Club (800 acres) in Miami, and the historic Old Post Office Building in Washington, D.C. which is being developed into a world class luxury hotel. Seen as a generational asset by the Trump family, the redevelopment plan will infuse the building with new life. Groundbreaking was in July of 2014.

Put your money where your mouth is and run for office to show what a perfect conservative candidate looks like.

We could sure use one!

I will never forget the social issues. 1. Life is a RIGHT given by God and guaranteed in our Constitution. It is NOT an issue at all. It’s a Right. 2. Homosexual marriage is a violation of God’s law and a destroyer of cultures, and a rejection of Nature’s God. I will never vote for a supporter of homosexual marriage. Period. So, who’s left standing in November 2016? Hopefully, the republican candidate will be pro-life, pro-natural family, pro-gun, pro-God, pro-Defense, pro-fiscal sanity, pro-controlled immigration, and pro-American exceptionalism.

If so, then I’ll vote for that person OR someone close and pro-life, pro-natural family.

I agree 100% with adding....jobs...jobs...jobs ....and much smaller govt added as priorities number 1 and number 2. Now to determine which candidate has those as his platform and can he be believed?

Norm; with respect, the insinuation is that Trump is a lib. You base this on what? He has no voting record as he is a nonpolitician.

I know enough to have accurately predicted the outcome of the GOP rushing left. I know that happened because people say one thing and do another. Just as with Romney.

What conservative? There are almost 100,000,000 eligible people out there. Surely we can find someone a year and a half prior to the election if Cruz was too lib to vote for. I forget did you vote for Mitt or support Mitch and Jon for reelection no matter what?
