When is a White House event for 500 people considered private?
They wont say. Nor would they say, in advance, that hundreds of guests were expected on Saturday night for a soiree and serenade from Prince, as guests of the President and First Lady.
All White House spokesman Josh Earnest would say about the Saturday event was that the First Family paid for it (though he wouldnt elaborate on how much it cost, or whether things like security were also covered).

May I be offended that the Obama’s only seem interested in black culture?
0bama rented the White Mosque? How much money did he collect?
0bama is a transracial.
JUST OFF THE PRESS. Well at the end of the article this last sentence is probably one of the funniest lines I’ve seen today
:” the president is committed to being transparent.. Well at least when it comes to parties. Actual govt bills etc., not so much.
Of course not. PC Boulevard is a one way st. ———> Oh, wait that should be <-———
Can I ask a stupid question? If there is nothing to hide, nothing unusual going on here, then why was this concert not announced in advance? And why so slow to confirm that it actually took place? Usually, White House events, state dinners, etc. are announced in advance. Visits by celebrities and entertainers in the past have been announced in advance. Why such secrecy this time?
Remember when George W. Bush set off the massive fireworks display over downtown Washington DC to celebrate the birthday of the wife of the president of Mexico?
I wonder if that was “private?”
“They Paid for it.”
Yep, a token amount for a token president and first family.
Makes you wonder who the guests might have been, huh.
LOL! Did you see my post #5? Josh says the fact that it’s being discussed(after the fact) shows transparency. Guess they didn’t want a bunch of “folks” jumping the fence like in McKinney TX by being “transparent” in advance.
“”The gathering, Earnest said, was an opportunity for the President and First Lady to host some of their friends at the White House at a party that they paid for themselves.
He added, The president obviously had an opportunity to meet lots of people and make lots of friends.”
Which was it - host some of their friends or make new ones? Perhaps I’m crazy but maybe, just maybe some of the criticism about the wild spending of our money has rubbed off on them if the point had to be made that “they paid for it themselves.” When have they ever offered that as justification for any of the spending?
Why such secrecy this time?
There you go again. Black lives matter damn it.
SARCASM
Plus the girls are staff members. At least that was how they are listed on the flight manifest a few yrs back.
I'll take Global Warming seriously when those that proclaim it, act like it.
Just as his White House visits from Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright were private.
RELEASE THE UNREDACTED WHITE HOUSE VISITOR LOGS, MR. TRANSPARENCY.
How much did the security detail cost?
Transparency = the serfs can vaguely see the revelers dancing on top of the walls of the Red Keep.
Don't blame Obama, blame the DJ who said on twitter that it was $15. < /sarc >
Did they pay for Prince and his band and also the food, beverages, chefs, servers, florists, clean up crew, security, valets, etc. etc. I highly doubt they paid for all that was involved.
