RIGA, Latvia In a significant move to deter possible Russian aggression in Europe, the Pentagon is poised to store battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and other heavy weapons for as many as 5,000 American troops in several Baltic and Eastern European countries, American and allied officials say.
The proposal, if approved, would represent the first time since the end of the Cold War that the United States has stationed heavy military equipment in the newer NATO member nations in Eastern Europe that had once been part of the Soviet sphere of influence. Russias annexation of Crimea and the war in eastern Ukraine have caused alarm and prompted new military planning in NATO capitals.
It would be the most prominent of a series of moves the United States and NATO have taken to bolster forces in the region and send a clear message of resolve to allies and to Russias president, Vladimir V. Putin, that the United States would defend the alliances members closest to the Russian frontier.

I did a title search and didn’t see this anywhere... I am surprised there was so little discussion of this on FR. I musta missed it. Or maybe it was just pulled off Breaking news like everything else seems to be these days.
Obama does not have the balls or compassion for the free nations of Eastern Europe to protect them from communism.
So our fearless leader is ready for a show of force against Russia but reluctantly sends a few troops to advise how to fight IS.
Could it be that Putin protects Christians against bearded savages and that the current occupant of the oval office is buddy buddy with the beard and burka crowd?
Reports of a coup in Russia today.
There were similar rumors in March, and sometime last year.

It’s been posted a couple of times before.
You have it completely backwards comrade.
We do this to PREVENT Russia from invading and reconquering, to become the evil empire again.
Obama needs to be stronger, and more Reagan like, not less so, as you desire him to be.
Failed diplomacy has brought this to bear.
That is a funny look back from a guy who is completely backwards on what will stop Russia from putting back to together, what we destroyed under Reagan.
Russia is invading right up to our NATO borders, and you are complaining that Obama is being TOO Reaganesque, when he actually needs to be stronger.
Concurring bump...twenty plus years of careful bilateral statecraft has been flushed down the toilet by this administration.
That is your new excuse for fighting for weakness and in support of Putin?
Because Obama has been too weak earlier in his responses?
BRILLIANT!
This loser hopey-changey postracial president squandered peace and prosperity... at home, and abroad.
I support the Reagan view of NATO being able to defend itself, and during this current invasion by Russia, strengthening our defenses on those NATO borders is the Reagan thing to do.
I was used to you guys picketing and even attacking and bombing, and killing us in terrorist attacks during the 1980s, but I didn’t think that you would start attacking Obama for being to Reagan-like, that is really absurd.
Obama needs to be persuaded to put those heavy weapons where they will most help, and in whatever NATO nations that appropiate.
Gaslight much?
Projection is a known tool of the left.
Projection?
Do you even know what you are saying?
So far, you haven’t made a post on this thread, that makes any sense.
Reagan would be taking stronger action than Obama, yet you want Obama to be weaker, and even less Reagan like.
Your calls for weakness in the face of Russian aggression, is of the left.
By the time those 5,000 troops got there, it would be too late. We're long past the days of REFORGER, when the Big Red One would fly to Germany for military exercises. I participated in REFORGER 77, and it was an experience I'll never forget...especially when an M60 tank crunched the Jeep I was riding in...took a turn too wide and ran the right track over the engine.
