US Poised To Put Heavy Weaponry In East Europe
NY Times ^ | 6/13/15 | By ERIC SCHMITT and STEVEN LEE MYERS

Posted on 06/13/2015 12:46:05 PM PDT by drewh

In a significant move to deter possible Russian aggression in Europe, the Pentagon is poised to store battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and other heavy weapons for as many as 5,000 American troops in several Baltic and Eastern European countries, allied officials say.

The proposal, if approved, would represent the first time since the end of the Cold War that the United States has stationed heavy military equipment in the newer NATO member nations in Eastern Europe that had once been part of the Soviet sphere of influence. Russia’s annexation of Crimea and the war in eastern Ukraine have caused alarm and prompted new military planning in NATO capitals.

It would be the most prominent of a series of moves the United States and NATO have taken to bolster forces in the region and send a clear message of resolve to allies and to Russia’s president, Vladimir V. Putin, that the United States would defend the alliance’s members closest to the Russian frontier.

After the expansion of NATO to include the Baltic nations in 2004, the United States and its allies avoided the permanent stationing of equipment or troops in the east as they sought varying forms of partnership with Russia.

“This is a very meaningful shift in policy,” said James G. Stavridis, the former supreme allied commander of NATO. “It provides a reasonable level of reassurance to jittery allies, although nothing is as good as troops stationed full-time on the ground, of course.”

The amount of equipment included in the planning is small compared with what Russia could bring to bear against the NATO nations on or near its borders, but it would serve as a credible sign of American commitment, acting as a deterrent the way that the Berlin Brigade did after the Berlin Wall crisis in 1961.

This is what is needed to prevent the Russian dictators from eventually regaining the empire, to be able to launch a WWIII.

Yet NATO continues to take the steps necessary, to counter any invasion of us, that you guys may attempt.

You think that Mexico and Haiti asked to join a defensive military alliance against the US?

No. I'm using as a parallel what if they did. Monroe Doctrine and Manifest Destiny shaped the US attitude toward our neighbors, just as Russia has similar feelings about their surrounding countries.

Meanwhile, we probably should be defending ourselves from "migrations" from Haiti and Mexico, rather than caring about the Oligarchs of the Ukraine.

Gosh you are a silly person, do you not know why all of us nations work so hard, and devote so much of our lives and fortune to trying to protect ourselves from Russia, many of us who were still enslaved by them only a few years ago?

Making cracks about someone giving free weapons to our neighbors like Mexico or Canada, is silly when talking about this great evil and world threat, of Russia.

The very real fear of Russia, is not a joke.

Well, the Russians have put such weaponry in Cuba over the years, and then some.

I was thinking future weapons stockpiles for Russia when they overrun the Baltic states.

This is just posturing—Obama will do nothing of real substance.

I'm sure the Russians are quaking in their boots.

Obama is probably sending in a brigade of faggots too

All of this is from the DOD website.

Lots of purging will be necessary.

Facts of the Day June 12, 2015 When she was promoted to brigadier general on August 10, 2012, Army Reserve officer Tammy Smith became the first general officer in the U.S. military to be openly gay while serving. During Smith's promotion ceremony, her wife, Tracey Hepner, pinned the general star onto her uniform. Smith, who had been in the military for 26 years at the time, served as the director for Army Reserve Human Capital.

Gosh you are a silly person...

What's silly? Russia is not a threat to the US. If Eastern Europe feels threatened, they should have dealt with providing defense for themselves. The threat to US sovereignty is illegal and legal non-citizens in the US, which is tearing our fabric apart. Thus Mexico and Haiti, two sources of non-citizens in the US, are more of a threat to us than Russia is.

Russia most definitely wants to rebuild itself into the threat that Ronald Reagan considered the greatest threat to America, and it is in the process of doing that.

Mentioning immigration issues has nothing to do with Russia and its threat to us.

The Russians are quaking in their boots.

Our military is vastly superior to Putin’s 1 year draftees who are poorly trained and ill equipped.
