“All politicians have a conflict of interest. Sleeping with a managing partner of Goldman Sachs is a conflict of interest by Ted.”

Yeah. I haven’t wanted to go there, but that his wife works for goldman is a fact. I still don’t want to go there. No reason to.

Ted Cruz has probably already scuttled whatever chance he had at the nomination. He’s running number 6 in the polls. He’s spinning this issue a great deal, which would tell any reasonably astute observer that there is a reason for that. He’s probably watching his internals and fundraising take a nosedive. Why vote for Jeb’s ideological twin on immigration and trade when the real mccoy is running?

I’ll wait for the withdrawal announcement, but I believe Ted will go back to being being a backbencher in the senate soon enough.

Sad though he had promise. I remember when he was filibustering and saying that we were looking at a future president.

The Trade issue has been terribly confused and he might have managed it if he had gotten the message on it out soon enough and clearly enough.

I don’t like TPA in the first place because it circumvents the 2/3 vote necessary for treaties and indeed fast tracks the agreements with a simple 51% majority as I understand it. I can see the point that the up / down vote is necessary because the things might never get out of congress. If they are good for the country then a up / down vote should be fine.

I really don’t care that we have had TPA for 80 years or not. It got us too many crummy things like NAFTA. Dingy Harry voted it out for some reason.

They owned the Senate and the House.

Yes, but they’re still beholden to those that own them.

The opposition to this bill is going to get more intense as more information about it is released.

Let's hope so!

A vote for TAA next week is a vote to send fast-track to the President’s obama's desk and to grant him these broad new executive authorities.

I want to know why REPUBLICANS want to do this???

“— it does take a certain I. Q. quotient.”

Oh, I know! It’s just too nuanced for some of us!

I didn’t call you that. I’m saying that’s what we’re being called if we DON’T support this cr@p trade bill, or Sen Cruz’s support for it. I was called those things, earlier.

Sorry if I misunderstood you because I have received some pretty bear scat replies and accusations of being troll, RINO and unintelligent. The problem is many people are so versed into Rafael ted Cruz that they cannot see the trees through the forest. Blindly aligning oneself to cruz. Cruz has clay feet - free trade is not what is at stake. It is American sovereignity 12 nations to do trade with. The USA already does trade with Japan, Korea, Australia. What products do we get from Japan - Sony, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Honda, Acura, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Kubota, Panasonic. What products do we get from Korea, - Daewoo, Huyandi, KIA, and many others. China supplies the uS with Haier refrigeration Systems,VW and BMW parts. many of our manufacturers have fled to China to have products made Whirlpool, Dell, Hewlett packard/Compaq and endless other products. isolate the uS from China and basically cut out throats too. Corporate America has sold off America.

Answer build what we need here. produce our own oil and to hell with the rest of the world. prior to WWI Germany was America’s number one trade partner. germany is still a significant trade partner today, but it is being surpassed by China.

No worries. I’ve been called worse on FR several times. Funny that you mention it. I don’t get called a troll much any more. After you accumulate 12,000 plus posts on FR, I guess the “troll” epithet rings pretty hollow.

This has been the most confusing subject for me. I am under the impression that TPA only fast tracks the vote to both houses of Congress for TPP. Am I correct in that or is there more to it? I am willing to wait to see how all the Republicans on TPP before holding them to judgment. I have read so many articles from both sides on this and I am still confused.

Quite the opposite actually. There are two ways to constitutionally get a trade deal: law or treaty. TPA makes the trade deals a federal law (originating in the House on to the senate and signed by the president), not a treaty (approved by 66 senators, no House involvement). Treaties, which is the route Sessions wants to take on trade deals, are what hand over sovereignty to international bureaucrats, not federal laws. TPA insures everything goes through both houses of congress. Treaties are dangerous.
