Halle Barry is half black -- which means she's black.
Obama is half black -- which means he's black.
Why does it work that way?
Because there are lots (and lots) of advantages to being black. It shouldn't be a surprise that everybody is jumping on the bandwagon -- "I've decided to be black!"
Why not? What's wrong with it? It's just a lifestyle choice.
Race is a social construct, that is unchangeable.
Sex is a chromosomal construct, that is changeable, unless you’re a feminist, in which it is social, and changeable.
Orientation is both a social and genetic construct, and unchangeable.
Do I have it right?
And Clarence Thomas is all black, which means he's white.
NO! It's a state of mind, imbued from birth, that can manifest at any time. It is not a choice, you are either born with the state of mind, or not.
I'm feeling a black state of mind coming on now, and bless my heart, no matter how hard I try, I can't (by choice) resist it.
Why does it work that way? Because there are lots (and lots) of advantages to being black.
Haven't you ever heard of the 'one drop rule'? It's always been that way in America - long before there was any advantage connected to being identified as black.
Lotta folks in my family could have passed for white, so I know a thing or two about this.
