This week, Congress has a historic opportunity to unite behind an issue that will create jobs, raise wages and solidify the U.S. as the leader in the 21st century economy. On Friday, the House is expected to vote on a bill known as trade promotion authority, or TPA. This legislation would empower Congress to dictate the terms of free trade agreements and ensure the U.S. secures the best trade deal possible for American workers, manufacturers, farmers and ranchers. This issue shares broad bipartisan support ranging from Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, Congressman Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and President Obama. Its passage is vital to ensuring American global leadership and creating opportunities for good-paying, high-quality jobs for the American people.
Free trade agreements allow us to remove trade barriers and open U.S. products to overseas markets. Past agreements show American companies are the most innovative and dynamic in the world if provided an equal opportunity, they can compete and win. In fact, if you combine all 20 countries that have a trade agreement with the U.S., American manufacturers enjoy a $50 billion trade surplus. Conversely, if you combine all the countries the U.S. does not have a free trade agreement with, American manufacturers run a $500 billion deficit.
Currently, the U.S. is negotiating numerous free trade agreements, the most notable being the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. A vote on either of these trade agreements is not likely to occur this year; however, in order to ensure that America gets the best possible deal on these FTAs, Congress must enact TPA....

Obamacare was going to make healthcare more affordable, and more available. In 2008, Al Gore said NYC would be underwater by now, 2015.
None of it was true, and neither is this.
Not with this President
Unless you’re a miraculous speed reader, you could not have read that article already, so I assume you’re just doing a knee-jerk reaction based on the headline and all the vitriol here lately about TPP and TPA, am I right?
This president will be gone in 16 months, and hopefully a Ted Cruz or similar individual will be sitting in that chair. Do you think that the Democrats, who may take back control of the Senate in 2016, will be happy to give a Republican president trade authority?
TPA is a great thing, when subsequent deals are done by responsible people. Approving TPA so Obama can do whatever he can to subvert congress for the benefit of others, then TPA needs to be killed.
Haha... no
“Approving TPA so Obama can do whatever he can to subvert congress for the benefit of others, then TPA needs to be killed.”
This statement is precisely why the powers are separate. In this day and age, getting a child in the chair is more likely than not. Ergo, not a good thing.
Take a look at how our trade deficit with South Korea has snowballed since the 2012 Obama administration negotiated Free Trade Agreement. We went from 13M in 2011 to 25M last year, and this year so far is way worse!
I got bad news for you Mimi and other RINOs and fake conservatives.
You LOST today and the American people won.
And BTW Mimi, let’s see that secret bill you and your bunch have been
hiding.
Krony Kapatali$t Trade will not be free.
Krony Kapitali$t Trade will not be free.
I think you mean billion, not million. That is something of a special case, as the Republic of Korea makes a lot of things that Americans want badly, such as televisions, quality automobiles, smart phones, consumer appliances, ships, factory equipment, etc. What do we make that the Koreans desire? They were a third-world country, for all intents and purposes, when I was stationed there (1978-79 and 1981-82) and now they are a first-world country, arguably ahead of us in many ways. I applaud their hard work, determination, commitment to education and scrappiness. I wish some of it would somehow rub off on our Millennials and Generation X, don’t you?
Yeh greater opportunity for transnational corporations and the international banking cartel. The rest of us not so much.

I guess my problem is that we go into “free trade” deals with a kick me sign attached to our backs. We always, and I do mean always, come out on the short end of the stick. Our leaders evidently want to be seen by other counties as “magnanimous” so we always drop our drawers and agree to a deal that is neither equitable nor fair to our own citizens. Just look at NAFTA. We now are “forced” to allow trucks from Mexico that are not roadworthy onto our nation’s roadways even though logic says that they will kill some of our citizens, and now we are supposed to stop labeling foodstuffs as to their country of origin, which will also likely result other unnecessary deaths amongst our citizenry. The Chinks have thought nothing of killing our pets, so you can bet they wouldn’t bat an eye about killing some of us to make a buck.
So EVEFRYONE here now is expected to be a Ron Paul/David Icke/Alex Jones/Occupy Wall Street conspiracy theory nutter? Can you tell us more about how the Rothschilds and the Joooos control everything and the elite are all reptilian shape-shifters who are slowly killing us through global warming, the chem trails, fluoride in the water, GMO “franken-foods” and fracking?
Oopsie on the M vs B (thank you).
Personally, I wish we weren’t at the bottom of a very deep money hole with other nations.
I think I see where our opinions differ.
You are in favor of building up other countries. You feel America is strong, and you want to make other countries stronger, or strong like us.
(don’t know this, I’m just asking basically)
I believe we have sent far too much American businesses around the world, and I would like to see a bunch of them brought right back to America.
Does that sound right, at least to some degree?
You are for global development.
I am for American development.
