Take a look at how our trade deficit with South Korea has snowballed since the 2012 Obama administration negotiated Free Trade Agreement. We went from 13M in 2011 to 25M last year, and this year so far is way worse!
I think you mean billion, not million. That is something of a special case, as the Republic of Korea makes a lot of things that Americans want badly, such as televisions, quality automobiles, smart phones, consumer appliances, ships, factory equipment, etc. What do we make that the Koreans desire? They were a third-world country, for all intents and purposes, when I was stationed there (1978-79 and 1981-82) and now they are a first-world country, arguably ahead of us in many ways. I applaud their hard work, determination, commitment to education and scrappiness. I wish some of it would somehow rub off on our Millennials and Generation X, don’t you?
