On June 13 the US Navy will christen a combat ship after gun control proponent and former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.
The ship will be called the USS Gabrielle Giffords and will be christened at the Austal USA shipyard in Mobile, Alabama, where Vice President Bidens wife, Jill, the ships sponsor, will break a bottle of sparkling wine across the bow.

I’m for naming ships after real warriors. Why not the USS Crazy Horse or USS Sitting Bull?
All she ever did was get shot in the head by a lunatic. THAT is the qualification to get a ship named after you?
I honor and praise Judge John Roll whenever that event is mentioned. This is an excerpt:
“Roll was shot on January 8, 2011, outside a Safeway supermarket in Casas Adobes, Arizona,[13] when Jared Lee Loughner opened fire at a “Congress on Your Corner” event held by Democratic U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords. Roll had attended Mass earlier that morning and decided to attend the event about an hour before the shooting.[14] Surveillance video revealed that Roll was shot in the back after pushing down and shielding Ron Barber, a staffer for Giffords who had just been shot.[15][16][17][18] Roll later died of his injuries, as did five other people.[14] Thirteen others were injured by gunfire, but survived, including Giffords and Barber; Barber would go on to replace Giffords when she resigned from Congress to recuperate from the injuries sustained in the shooting.[3]”
He was given a ceremony posthumusly by the St Thomas More society, but it was never mentioned the bravery he showed, but more importantly how he was exemplary in his Catholic faith. He was known to go to church every day and he was there to visit Giffords, although, they were not of the same party.
God Bless you Judge Roll.
Uh, she’s advancing the goals of ending gun violence. Oh, wait. What? :>}
It has no guns (snicker).
Today’s Navy is insulting to to the Naval Service.
I am so glad I am retired from the navy. It is sickening to see what it has become.
Yes, I am sorry to say my Grandson is going in the Navy.
It gets easier every day to see why parents etc considered sending their kids to Canada rather than get drafted.
I didn’t agree then, but in the same vein, my Grandfather didn’t want me going in back in ‘56...he also didn’t like Elvis etal...
I got to use a ‘good line’ on him...
Jason, this is NOT your grandfathers Navy......
The barrels have been filled with concrete for the safety of the crew.
Needs a hole in the bridge and command and control systems rendered useless to be authentic.
I would have expected the Soviets to have a ship class named after Che Guevara, but now I expect it from Obama.
Perhaps it’s main mission will be to trail and sink US Aircraft Carriers?
Does it only come with half a CIC or none at all since she never really had anything of value upstairs anyways?
How is Ford insulting? He served honorably as a naval officer in WWII, even volunteering to be transferred from an instructor job to service on a combat ship. He may not have been the greatest president, but he loved this country and walked the walk when it counted.
Ironic, a ship named after an anti gun proponent actually has guns and missiles.
Of course they used to name battleships after states for much the same reason. After all, Oklahoma and Arizona aren’t exactly great seafaring states. Since they don’t have battleships anymore, naming boomers after them is a reasonable choice.
Another WTF moment!
Hugh waste of wine. Why not honor those who died that day?
Yes. I too am a Navy brat and a
Served in the Navy as well,, and I am ashamed of what the U.S. Navy has become.
They have been at the front of the social experimentation with women on ships and in combat roles, a sure fire recipe for disaster.
And they have been neck and neck with the Air Force to see who could do the most to encourage homosexuality, transgenderism and perversion.
I am astonished, disgusted, repelled, and dismayed. I am grateful my father and mother did not live to see this.
Agreed 100%.
