More info from the DesMoines Register:
Good riddance. I guess there will gnashing of teeth for the small fry political operatives and activists who enjoyed getting their free bus ride and food/refreshments.
The Iowa “Gop-e/Rinos” are overjoyed.
Jeb is relieved.
Paulistas hardest hit.
It is not a bad thing. That poll was a waste of time and just allowed a propaganda op for the GOP anyway. I do not see this as harming conservatives at all.
Iowa Straw Poll ... good riddance ping.
Good. Silly thing was a joke anyway.
Must not be expecting the results they want
So sad. :( LOL
The Straw Poll was a political circus and who doesn’t like a circus? It was successful at winnowing the field. For example, Lamar Alexander, Dan Quayle, Elizabeth Dole, Pat Buchanan(1999); Tommy Thompson(2007) and Tim Pawlenty(2011) were forced out of the race by their poor showings in the Iowa Straw Poll. That is what killed it this year as many of the candidates, especially Scott Walker, but also other national media favorites, were obviously afraid of making a poor showing. The huge field very much needs winnowing and now we will not have the Straw Poll to help with that.
I suspect because Jeb Kept coming in last...
This will help Jebbie hold firm until he sweeps Red Hampshire prior to his popularity in SC, GA, FL, and TX.
Wonder how much Jeb and the Cheap Labor Express paid to protect Jeb from what would have been a very embarrassing showing?
Its outlived its time and now its gone. No big deal.
Just for a little more background:
The Iowa Straw Poll was scheduled this year about the same date as the first sanctioned debate in Ohio, and also on the same date as Erick Erickson’s RedState Gathering.
When the Ames(Iowa) Straw Poll started, campaigns were much more tentative and not much other campaigning was going on.
Last election, after Ron Paul paid the Iowa state GOP establishment $30,000 for prime display space, and other candidates spent a total of $80,000 on display space, there was going to be a backlash.
Good.
