Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)96%, a 2016 Republican presidential candidate, defended his decision to vote for Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) that would fast-track the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP) and Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA)among other dealsduring a Thursday interview with the Hugh Hewitt radio program.
Hewitt started his line of questioning with coming out of a commercial. Lets take that opportunity, then, to go and talk about free tradeTPA, TPP, Export-Import Bank. Sen. Cruz, for claritys sake, can you quickly give us an overview on where you are on those three issues, as theres quite a lot of confusion among conservative voters as to where different people are and why on each of those three issues.
Sure, Cruz responded. There is a lot of confusion and, unfortunately, a lot of misinformation you can get on the Internet that people are confused, so lets explain what each of those three are.
Cruz, by saying that, was essentially making the exact same claimblaming the Internet for what he argues is misinformationas House Ways and Means Committee chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)60%. Ryan made the claim on Fox News earlier on Thursday in response to Breitbart News reporting highlighted by the massively influential Drudge Report. Ryan, with whom Cruz pushed Obamatrade in a Wall Street Journal op-ed in late Aprilone thats been used by Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)40% to try to rally support for Obamatradehas been essentially discredited by various false statements hes made throughout this process.
That Cruz would use the same talking points as him is interesting and probably disappointing to many conservatives. That Boehner is using Cruz to push Obamatrade is probably even more disappointing to most conservatives... ...

I trust Sessions over anyone in D.C. at this point in time.
I tend to agree with you.
Me thinks the confusion, especially Internet-driven conflicts on this trade bill is NOTHING BUT A SET-UP FOR THE GUBMINT TO JUSTIFY CONTROLLING/BANNING INTERNET CONTENT, primarily conservative sites. Watch what happens after this Bill’s passage. The confusion, classified text, etc. is a deliberate ruse to rally public support for Internet censorship.
I didn’t know about that. figures.
it makes NO sense for Cruz to suddenly go against everything he believes in to vote for this. he’s still my guy.
A trade bill with a lot of krap in it? No problem. You just get the krap out of it with amendments.
A fast-track bill? Sure, on some things.
A trade bill with a lot of krap in it PLUS a fast-track bill? Big, big problem.
Like alcohol and driving. Each one is fine on its own. And it’s important to know the difference and not do them both at the same time.
Maybe so, but if Obama is for it tells me that no good will come from it.
z taxman signed up here to push Paul, and dampen support for Cruz, and manipulate FR, and he hit the ground running, this may not be his first sign up here.
Just look at his posting history, he is working what he thinks is a subtle, under the radar, pro-Paul/anti-Cruz campaign, that is why he signed up 10 weeks ago.
“It is not the monster it is being made out to be.”
Monsters, real or imagined, are said to prefer the dark of night, lest they get discovered prematurely.
TPP / TPA, and any other bills that are concealed from lawmakers and We The People fellow citizens, are almost certainly monstrosities to fear.
If lawmakers are so right to champion this crucial treaty, why are they hiding it’s content in secrecy from current and future review???
I wouldn’t be shocked. like I said in another post, we might not be able to wait for the next election or it might be too late.
we need leaders to organize protests and demonstrations NOW.
WE ARE LOSING OUR COUNTRY.
how soon before FReepers are rounded up and sent off to prison.
It’s a bad mistake for sure. I just find they hypocracy of all these ‘conservatives’ abandoning him over one mistake precious considering THEY were the ones bitching bloody murder about ‘purity’ when some of us refused to join other liberals in voting for Capt. RINO in 2012.
Jindal remains a possibility for me. I have a short list and they have been moving up and down a lot. LOL! Thanks for the info. I need to study up on Jindal more. What I know, I like.
Good job as usual.
My support of Mitt Romney was based on his acumen in the business world. America elected an idiot who never had a real job let alone never had even run a lemonade stand! The choice SHOULD have been crystal clear to all Americans, but it wasn’t. National Sovereignty and National Security take top billing with me. Everything else is minor. I am against Transpacific.
Back when I was young and there was not political correctness, "misinformation" was called a lie.
Figures. Then again, he spouts the same liberal crap that got us Romney so he’s just one of many, new, retread or other.
The real problem is gutless psuedoconservative frauds that only stand for the shifting winds.
Jindal is an open-borders guy but maybe he can change that as he sees how much the media is lying to us about what Americans want on this issue.
I certainly don’t have all the answers. but I look at things from a common sense perspective. why would Cruz all of a sudden abandon every principle he believes in to vote for this? it makes no sense.
of course I understand your skepticism. we shall see what happens, I guess.
So what if people read them. I don’t get why that is a big deal.
I sure hope you didn’t just tell us to vote for the lesser of two evils!
Seriously, I don’t really know enough about this trade agreement to know whether it’s good or bad, but where does trust in leaders begin and end? I mean, we have to elect someone to represent us, and we can’t always know all the intricacies of everything they are doing.
When someone like Senator Cruz tells me there’s a lot of misinformation out there, I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt. After all, he’s been so good on so many other issues and spoken out against things when it might have been in his better interest (politically) to keep quiet.
I’m not saying Senator Cruz should be given a pass. I’m only saying that when he tells us it’s not as bad as some think and he supports it, we should at least consider he may be right. I think Reagan’s “trust but verify” applies here.
So...sadly...I think we agree. (LOL!)
Hansell once again attacking the messenger and steering clear of the subject at hand. Just like a good Alinsky Trotskyite.
