LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) Members of the Los Angeles City Council Wednesday approved an ordinance that will raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour over the next five years.
Officials explained the minimum wage will go from $9 per hour to $10.50 an hour beginning in 2016. The rate will then jump to $12 in 2017; $13.25 in 2018; $14.25 in 2019; and $15 by 2020.
We are already seeing the fruits of our labor as our own state and other cities nationwide begin exploring policies to increase their local minimum wage, said L.A. City Council President Herb Wesson.

Agree. If we are going to create money out of thin air, why be stingy?
Maybe more aholes will migrate to Ca instead of Tx.
Hell, lets make it a hundred.
Just think about how much whining that same person will make over future budgets when employee costs go through the roof.
The new wage for those unemployed as a result will be $0.00
The minimum wage issue is sweeping the country so could it be that the minimum wage issue has really nothing to do with compassion for the wage earner as the politicians all espouse but more aptly to replace the tax revenue from the 93 million Americans who are now unemployed?
So the increase has yet to go into effect and already they are seeing the “fruits of their labor” by citing their idiocratic illogic is spreading to other areas?
Laughing at the superior intellect...again
The city needs to guarantee employment too.
Bump
I know of three restaurants that have already closed their doors.
Excellent work city council.
“So the increase has yet to go into effect and already they are seeing the fruits of their labor by citing their idiocratic illogic is spreading to other areas?””
The same thought came to me...how idiotic! I guess by “fruits of their labor” means that their stupid idea is being recognized across the country. WOW! Genius!
So the unemployment rate in California is 0.8% higher than the national average, they have an emergency drought situation and they decide to artificially increase the cost of labor. I guess that makes sense if you’re a Californian.
Absolutely, why not go all the way? Fifteen an hour isn’t much now, even in South Carolina. The cost of living is much higher in LA so why not make it at least a hundred an hour? In five years you won’t be able to buy groceries in Podunk with a mere fifteen an hour.
I think that every time someone suggests an increase in minimum wage, we demand it be doubled, tripled or quadrupled. We should demand it be increased to something that not even the proponents would accept, and then they need to be castigated for being stingy.
If by some insanity, they agree to it, we need to play chicken with them and implement it. The outrage and backlash from the massive loss of jobs would do the rest, and it would also illustrate to stupid people why it is stupid to set a minimum wage.
All it does is kill jobs.
