New York police commissioner William Bratton said he'd like to hire more non-white officers but most of them have criminal records and therefore, he can't, The Guardian reported.
“We have a significant population gap among African American males because so many of them have spent time in jail and, as such, we can’t hire them," Bratton said in an interview with the publication.
For this high number, Bratton blamed the "unfortunate consequences" of stop-and-frisk policing carried out on young non-white men over the last few years in New York.
A felony conviction, domestic violence charges, or a dishonorable discharge from the military automatically disqualifies someone from joining the NYPD, according to the Guardian.

That is a real issue for clean-cut, decent black guys; they view most black women as grifters out to screw them. Too bad younger black guys don’t realize this when they engage in sex with them; what the lib establishment refuses to believe is that the girl gets pregnant on purpose.
What else is someone with no job or language skills going to do as high school graduation nears? She’ll get her own apartment & freebies, and doesn’t even have to provide breakfast or lunch for her golden ticket welfare bastard either...
That is the reason for the non-stop barrage trying to shame young men into marriage (or at least fatherhood); TV thinks they are going to shame these young men into risking everything because TV told them to. Many young people today are from broken homes; they know what is in store for them when the wife/baby-mama gets bored or meets someone with more money...
It is a shame to watch our birthrate drop to near 0, but understandable.
