GOP aiming for Friday trade vote, but snag remains

House leaders, confident but not yet certain they have the support to pass sweeping trade legislation, are aiming to bring the package to a floor vote by the end of this week — even as they rush to resolve a last-minute hangup over how to pay for aid to displaced workers.

The vote to grant President Barack Obama fast-track authority to negotiate a massive Pacific Rim trade deal will be extremely tight by all accounts. Senior aides and lawmakers in GOP leadership are intent on scheduling the vote at the moment they believe they have the votes locked up — ideally by Friday, to spare supportive lawmakers the possibility of another weekend of attacks by trade foes back in their districts.

Thanks for the tip, this seems quite interesting.

I just looked up Coopers in Ilano. Quite an operation it appears.

Small note however, the very first online review I read went “This place is under new management and is no longer worth the drive or the price! “

It sounds from your inital review quite good. Is the place still good for a road trip? There are a large number of reviews, is that just statistical noise on the most recent ones?

I appreciate your feedback if you respond, may very well, visit sometime.

Thank you.

“I just officially renounced my support for Ted Cruz.”

****

Two possible motivating factors for Cruz’s stance on this issue.

1. He wants the same executive authority if elected POTUS.

2. His vote has been bought and paid for thanks to his wife’s role at Goldman Sachs (and related campaign contributions for both Senate and POTUS candidacies).

I hope it is only the first reason but have to factor both into the equation, particularly with his H-1B visa support that replaces Americans with cheaper foreigners as workers.

Sadly, he’s still the top contender for my vote given the alternatives. The GOP field consists of a choice between a sh#t sandwich and a turd taco.

He (Cruz) want the same executive authority if elected POTUS

That does seem to be the excuse the Cruzers are using to patronize us.

But you know what? For a guy with Cruz's superior intellect, that doesn't make sense. He would factor in objectively the percentage possibility that he doesn't become president. Figure he has maybe a 40% chance....it's not worth the risk that someone would abuse that authority.

Besides that, we constitutional conservatives didn't turn to Cruz for MORE power to go to the executive. Can't imagine how they will rein in a President given more authority, when they don't do the things they could to stop Obama now. Also, it's a bit arrogant for Cruz to assume he knows best rather than using the constitutional process of passing trade deals.

Cruz is looking like this year's Paul Ryan. Made some conservative noises, than shows his true colors.

regarding the comments, there was a long line at around 4:30 on a Saturday after noon. We were from out of state. the others were Texans

We ate at several other BBQ houses two of which were listed in the top 5 in Texas. Coopers in Llano has hands down the best brisket. The best and unique sausage was at Smitties Market in Lockhart.

Although the BBQ in Llano might be reason enough for a road trip, 40 miles down the road in Fredricksburg is the Nimitz Museum of the War in the Pacific. There is a recent addition called the George HW Bush Gallery that details the American efforts from say 1939 until the end. It is too much for us in one long day so we spent two half days. This museum is a treasure

Obama and the Republican leadership have decided that the world no longer needs republican or parliamentary democracy, and that the future lies with a one-world corporatocratic socialist government.

This trade deal is a big part of “Operation Rollerball”.

Well, Obama has said it but I'm relying more on Cruz, Rubio, Ryan et al. It's a requirement of the TPA bill that's passed the Senate and is now in front of the House.

Anything Bambi wants should be extinguished. He’s already screwed our healthcare system and is dragging the economy into the crapper.

The destruction on American jobs and products is beyond comprehension. I see massive corruption and bribes on this. Congressmen’s wives are streaming into to grab pay off money as “consultants” and “board memberships” This is a dark dark hour. This country is being given away in large part by republicans.Cruz is finished.
Please Please get on the phone and faxes and emails to let them know that this is an abrogation to the globalist form of government. We must stop this madness.

Yep!

Many don’t see that what we have right now is pretty bad for this country...TPA changes that and puts it back into our Congressional hands.

I am not an isolationist....I understand how Trade works today is different then at another time in our history....you have to be on board as that train has already left the station and we’re actually bringing up the rear at this point.

How are you going to stop it? Our Congressional Representatives understand we cannot be isolationists and that every nation is taking a hit when it comes to trade...it’s just the way it works.

But we’ve been warning for years about the Global Agenda and our citizens for the most part didn’t give a crap.....now it’s really too late....you simply aren’t going to stop it unless this nation chooses to isolate itself.

....”Open Ended Treaty that can be Changed at any time after the Vote”....

But that works to our advantage as the time it will take for TPP to actually be enforceable will be when we have won the Presidency with our guy.

There’s all kinds of hoops the trade deal has to go through and can be slowed down to a snails crawl til Obama is out.

The stock market is at or near all time highs. Its the global corporatists who want this trade agreement. They are making a fortune as top 1% members of the investor class and they also happen to be the largest donors to both political parties.
Obama’s Top Ten Corporate Donors in 2008:
Goldman Sachs
Microsoft
JP Morgan Chase
Google
Citigroup
Time Warner
National Amusements Inc. (CBS, Viacom)
IBM
General Electric
Morgan Stanley

This is not trade this is treason, it brings workers to take American jobs and additionally facilitates the sending of work abroad.

We are a Country of over 300 million people, we don’t need more H1B visas workers, more illegals coming over, WE NEED JOBS AND INDUSTRY TO STAY HERE.

Free trade doesn’t need agreements and treaties ...if its free that is. ....but they never say FAIR TRADE TREATY AGREEMENTS......because every trade agreement they sign in UNFAIR TO AMERICAN CITIZENS, but great for the driving down of wages and easier profit.

But hey NAFTA was great

if your letter doesn’t threaten the power of the GOP then it will have no effect. No if you say you will lead a protest of 20 people in front of the local gOP headquarters and burn a giant elephant and start a third party...then maybe they might listen.
