Indian Army crosses Myanmar border in rare attack to avenge Manipur massacre

The Indian Army on Tuesday conducted a cross-border revenge attack in Myanmar by killing nearly a dozen militants said to be involved in the massacre of 18 soldiers last week in Manipur's Chandel district

Reports said the strike was done in coordination with the Myanmar regime after the clearance to conduct the surgical strikes were given at the highest level in the government. "Any threat to safety, security and national integrity will meet with a similar response," an Army spokesman said.

However, a report in the Economic Times claimed India will not admit to carrying out the rare cross-border operation.

Reports earlier this week also said India had given Myanmar phone intercepts and location details of at least two officials from the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), who were reportedly in touch with the top leadership of insurgent group, NSCN-Khaplang, suspected to be behind the killing.

Army sources in the Eastern Command had said the ambush was carried out by 15 members of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), a Meitei outfit formed in 1994. The KYKL is closely aligned to the NSCN-K that broke off a 14-year ceasefire with the government this April.

These “militants”

They wouldn’t happen to be Muslim, would they?

The Indians are trying to impose the metric system on them.

I can foresee India making more trips there if they suspect China is trying to turn the place into a client state in order to box India off from SE Asia.

India can easily cite "historical" reasons for asserting their influence just like China does with islands in the South China Sea.

If the Chinese are behind this, watch out. But unfortunately, our media won’t report this activity. Watch India get closer to all of SE Asia and encircle China.

According to the article, they are Meiteis, a dominant ethnic group in Manipur.

Manipur is about 50% Hindu, 35% Christian and 8% Muslim.

Suspect this group are commies.

That would be pretty funny. India claiming territory because it too was conquered by the Brits. They get Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan too!

I still call it Burma, and a pediatrician friend who is Burmese also calls it Burma.

Burma is desperately trying to move away fron Chinese domination. It is actively encouraging Indian and Western engagement. Seems Burma has also its own problem with Chinese supported terrorists and recently bombed these, inside Chinese territory.

No specific permission was sought for the actual raid.Would have been suicidal if they had done that considering the Chinese influence inside parts of the Myanmar government. The operation started at about 3 A.M. and the Myanmar government was informed during "regular working hours" by the Indian ambassador when the 2 teams from 21st Para(SF) were back on Indian soil.
