VALENTINA LISITSA PLAYS THE CHOPIN ETUDESThis vivace in 2/4, nicknamed the Black Key etude, features the right hand playing only the black keys with some very tricky fingering.

VALENTINA LISITSA PLAYS THE CHOPIN ETUDESThis andante in 6/8 is slow, but it requires complicated fingering in both hands where the notes are adjacent to each other, and thus takes special effort for articulation.

One of the guys at work said the same thing...bright and colors. Were you light sensitive at all before your surgery?
The only thing I know so far is I leave with my eye taped shut and covered for 4 to 6 hours. And 2 kinds of drops every 4 hours. The procedure seems very reminiscent of my lasik.

VALENTINA LISITSA PLAYS THE CHOPIN ETUDESThis vivace in 6/8 requires interchanging the thumb and second finger on the same note in adjacent chords in the right hand, and then the fifth and fourth fingers when the action switches to the left hand. You need a feather touch on the keys to make this work, and I had an elephants touch.

No, I was not light-sensitive! Things were very dark for me. Now? Wow! Everything is BRIGHT! ;-)

Did you have one eye near sighted and one far sighted? That is definitely a brain game.

VALENTINA LISITSA PLAYS THE CHOPIN ETUDESThis allegro in 4/4 is mostly for the right hand, requiring four pivots per bar, again aiming for a supple wrist. In the middle section, both hands have to play this game, and they have to handle subtle changes of phrasing.

VALENTINA LISITSA PLAYS THE CHOPIN ETUDESThis allegro molto agitato in 6/8 is an exercise for the left hand, forcing the thumb to work in intervals substantially greater than an octave. Its for stretching.

My left eye is 20-20, my right one was plagued by cataracts.
So, when the right eye became 20-20 again after the surgery, the 'ol brain, which had been relying on the good eye went, WHOA, we have some adjusting to do here....hence the dizziness while my new vision cleared up.

VALENTINA LISITSA PLAYS THE CHOPIN ETUDESThis vivace assai in 12/8 is a double exercise. The left hand has to stretch, but its the brain that is forced to really exercise. The right hand part is phrased in two and the left hand in three.

VALENTINA LISITSA PLAYS THE CHOPIN ETUDESThis allegretto in 3/4 is a stretching exercise for both hands, with all the chords rolled. This has given it the nickname the Harp etude.

VALENTINA LISITSA PLAYS THE CHOPIN ETUDESThis allegro con fuoco in 4/4 is one of the most famous of all Chopins pieces, the Revolutionary etude. This is primarily an exercise for the left hand with long stretches and tricky fingering.
Chopin: Etude in C minor, Op. 10/12
Tomorrow night its the Opus 25 etudes.

Boy, you did have some adjusting. Neither one of my eyes is good. When I got the glasses I have now I had to sign a paper acknowledging that the doctor could NOT get them to 20/40 with glasses. Just seeing clearly again is gonna be an adjustment. LOL! But, I’m looking forward to it.
