Central Planning: Recent sales data show that consumers don't want electric cars. Too bad, since President Obama has put in place regulations that will effectively force the public to buy them in the not-too-distant future.

PING!
Only $52000 and once you pay up you get delivery in just three years. Praise be Obama
I see a second “cash for clunkers” in the near future.
I think that program was an unmitigated disaster.
But as a junkyard scrounger, it sure did put a lot of clean cars in the wrecking yards for me to get parts from (excepting engines).
If the communist thug in our White House can force us to buy medical insurance that we do not want (and that doesn’t actually work), he can force us to buy an electric car that we do not want. I miss freedom and the rule of law.
Will not comply with the Beast. I wonder how long it will take for it to come out that he’s a partner or board member of one of the electronic car manufacturers and its revealed that the false propping up of the climate change religion by 0 is the motivation behind it?
I notice that Obama also is promulgating regulations that are shutting down power plants that would be required to provide electricity to charge all of these additional electric vehicles.
Yup.
The goal is really to push people onto mass transit and other alternatives methods of transport (walking, biking, etc) and push them to live in cities.
Electric cars have limited range, can’t be used for long trips. So take a train or a bus. For day to day use they’ll be very expensive due to electrical costs. Much better to move to a high density area where you dont really need one. In fact just ditch the thing and rent one on those rare occasions you actually need to.
Obomba Akbar!
The goal of the elites is to empty out the rural areas, for their own estates and pleasures.
The first one damned near devastated the used car market.......................
YES. he will do it just like insurance.
Chief Justice Roberts, a Bush appointee to the USSC allowed in his twisting the law so that now the Federal Government can in fact force us to buy anything they want us to, just call it a tax, and the fascist Roberts will support it.
The USSC is just as corrupt as the rest of government, federal, local or state.
Or as someone once said, “Meet the new boss, he’s the same as the old boss”
no that isn’t the reason, it’s easier to control people in a concentrated area.
no that isnt the reason, its easier to control people in a concentrated area.

Oh I agree. But elites will use rural areas as theirs and through the EPA make many areas a no go to all but them. Think of the king’s land in days of yore. No one was permitted to hunt or live on it. Our wardens are more like the king’s property protectors in some regions.
Well, this CAFE thingie can be changed by the next administration.
In fact, I am hoping that a group of conservatives will get together and draw up a “Repeal Everything Ophonybama Did to Us Manifesto!” for the 2016 election cycle!
With battery development....within five years.....you will have 300 to 400 miles with each charge. Short range issues evaporate at that point.
I think you end up in 2025 with two significant issues, if electric cars become a fad. Power requirements on the grid will go up and the current grid isn’t capable of handling this. Nuke plants aren’t going up and coal-powered plants are considered ‘evil’. How do you accomplish daily charging of your vehicle then?
The other issue is the method of disposal for the old batteries. No one has explained to me yet how you dump the old batteries....or what the cost will be (I’m guessing a thousand dollars minimum for a dump-fee). If a car battery only lasts four years....you might run through three or four batteries in your life and I can’t see paying a $1000 each time for disposal.
IF they are serious about getting gas powered cars off the road, they need to fix the “fueling up” scenario. I think it would be better to have a swappable power pack, so, like a gas station, it takes 5 or 10 minutes. Cars would be designed to have a quick swap pack in the trunk or something. Doesn’t necessarily have to be electric.
If the free market is allowed to develop this stuff, it’ll be great, and I’ll be on board. If it’s mandated, it’ll be too costly, terrible maintenance issues will ensue, programs will need to be funded for the “poor” to get their new Tesla’s etc.
