In the past few weeks we've learned that Josh Dugger was a child molester, former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert was a child molester and the Methodist Church in the UK has apologized for 2,000 cases of abuse dating back to 1950.
Child molesters can be found in the highest reaches of politics. Molesters can be television celebrities. And molesters can ply their abuse under the cover of the church. With abusers that pervasive it makes sense to learn more about the perpetrators.
Thanks to an excellent article in The Jewish Woman we can. The really bad news in the report titled "Things You Need to Know About Child Molesters" is that child abuse is an infinite chain. "The vast majority of child molesters are male, and most sexual abusers were sexually abused as children."
And although in retrospect we consider them monsters, child molesters are successful because they "usually try to be very charming and friendly." They are also patient. After gaining the trust and approval of parents and organizations dealing with youth they are often given positions of authority that the molester abuses along with the children.
One of the danger signals for parents is someone that shows an excessive interest in children, showering them with "attention, affection and gifts."
Probably the most insidious byproduct of child molestation is the victim feels guilty and that somehow the abuse was their fault.
The article has solid, sensible advice for parents:
- Teach your children about personal safety and boundaries from age three on, making sure you do so in a way that's appropriate for the child's age.
- Pay attention if your child is uncomfortable around a popular adult or teen. Calmly attempt to discover the cause through a patient discussion.
- Be wary of adults or teens that lavish gifts or special favors on your child.
- Be very suspicious if any adult or teacher wants to meet with your child behind closed doors for any reason. Ask your child about the incident, again in a calm reassuring fashion, and inform the adult it won't be happening again.
- If your child says he's been abused NEVER blame the child for what they did and how long it took to tell - you. Victims need support, not criticism.
- If any child reports abuse call 911, don't rely on anyone else to take action.
- Don't take the word of an abuser at face value, they are expert liars. Let the experts do the investigation.
Good advice. Substitute the word “politician” for child molester and it is even better advice for all of us.
Large segments of the Belgian government are be outed and the country is scandalized from time to time and ministers and agency heads go off to prison for child molesting and trafficking and the like. It seems to be a cultural thing.
So, why all the fuss about letting gay men be Scoutmasters?

An excuse to keep Obama and Hillery and other demmocrats under covered.
I told my son, at around 3, about his private parts. I told him, after teaching him how to bathe properly, that no one should touch his private parts but himself. I also told him, when he was older, that if an adult did touch a child inappropriately, it is NEVER the child’s fault. Kids need to be protected. There are predatory teens and adults everywhere.
NAMBLA is a part of the gay movement in America and takes part in all gay pride parades, in the gay community pedophiles are referred to as chicken hawks.
Have you considered that, perhaps, people are outraged about what the Duggars have done and said because what they have done and said is outrageous?
Other than they should die I don’t care.
The Dugger defenders are like Penn State football defenders. It’s about tribalism and the brand name, not Christianity.
Some able-body people are amputating limbs then receiving disability assistance because they "identify as disabled" and they are calling it “transable rights” for the disable trapped in a able bodies.
How long before pedophiles will have similar rights and have their behavior defended with claims that the are “children trapped in adult bodies” or that they “identify as a child” and not as an adult?
A lifetime ago I used to watch Phil Donahue on TV. Then, in 1989, he had some members from NAMBLA on. I was in shock that the cops didn’t come in and drag the guys away. They were talking about the young men that ‘benefited’ from the ‘attention’ of NAMBLA members. I never watched Donahue again.

The sad thing is that there are maternal men out there with no ulterior motive. I had wanted to be a ‘Big Brother’ since I can’t afford to start a family. But my family warned me what an easy ‘mark’ I would be — false accusations and hyper-sensitive accusations. Even attempts at blackmail.
In the meantime, gay scout masters get a pass along with gay couples adopting little boys.
NAMBLA should be excoriated officially, and a constitutional amendment to that end would be wildly popular. It would strip away as many legal protections as the state legislators and congress would choose to.

I was a Big Sister to two girls along the way. Very rewarding. And yes, the Big Brothers are screened very, VERY thoroughly. Which is a good thing, IMHO.
