Eight Minnesota health plans have proposed big premium increases for 2016, ranging from 11 to 74 percent.
The rate increases are only proposals for now and must be approved by state regulators before they can be finalized. But Minnesota Public Radio reports the proposals drew an angry response from Gov. Mark Dayton.
The governor calls the proposed rate increases "outrageous" given that Minnesota's health care costs have been increasing by only 3 percent. He says they need a "rigorous review" before they become final Oct. 1.
Some of the policies will be offered through MNsure, the state health insurance exchange. The proposed increases do not include any potential government subsidies paid to offset the costs.

Heard Sean Hannity reading a list of increases for several states. Didn’t catch enough to know what he was reading from but it seems widespread.

TRANSLATION:
The amount of approved increase depends on how much they give to Democrats.
(Which is exactly what it was designed to do.)
unexpected reality for liberals.
In terms of the 74-percent rise of the one company....I would suspect that they had a fair number of the high-cost players under that umbrella. All you need from one group of a hundred participants.....are eight people who utilize $75,000 of services/requirements in one year....to suddenly cause the insurance company to accelerate their costs onto the participants. This was the issue when you opened up the door and said no prior disease or condition mattered.
I’m fifty-six years old and spent twenty-two years within the AF. If you took all of my medical services/needs/vaccinations into consideration and assigned a cost to them....I probably haven’t passed the $35,000 level in my whole adult life. I’ve worked with people who probably required $300,000 in just a ten-year period.
Worthless insurance. Does nothing and we don’t have the resources to take care of everybody. Just an excuse for the IRS to gain money and the government to spend it on worthless projects and to give to third world dictators. Case closed.
The state regulators will not approve the increases.
Then, unless the insurance plans decide to operate at a loss, they can just leave MN...
More hope-n-change, baby!! If you like your health insurance, you can keep it.
Gee. I wonder why everything that has subsidized 3rd party payers has yearly huge costs increases....
It's obvious that there are just too many choices out there. </sarc>
(pretty bad when the WaPo Wonkbog mocks a Dem candidate)
Having incorrectly projected revenues and costs and overhead, it is now catch up time. The % rate of increase correlates directly with the amount of the incorrectness of the projections the previous year.
