ATLANTA (CBS Atlanta) For the first time ever, scientists have linked prescription drugs that affect the central nervous system to an increased risk of committing a homicide.
European researchers found that people who were taking a class of tranquilizers called benzodiazpines were more likely to kill someone than those who were not taking these medicines, reports Live Science.

They may try to prescribe these meds to ALL Americans.
Part of the “new” regulation of the ACA, you know.
I think this is actually more a case of correlation than causation.
People who kill are more likely to abuse/use drugs but it doesn’t mean the drugs make them kill.
“Finally the government has a legitimated reason to disarm all of these potential murderers.”
Yep, I think more than half of the population has used these drugs at some point
This news is giving me a lot of anxiety...
Yes, but this might a little of both...
The timing of this study is HIGHLY suspect. Alcoholics get a pass!
I agree.
In the Soviet Union it was common to send dissenters to “asylums.”
Remember, all they have found is a correlation, and correlation does not equal causation. It could well be, for example, that they have a condition that makes them both more likely to kill and more likely to be prescribed these kinds of medications, rather than the medications being the culprit.
I think you're right. When I've taken Valium (a bendodiazepine) for sleep, I definitely feel less aggressive, downright docile even. I cannot imagine this drug would induce someone to murderous rage.
It might be the case that people with prior uncontrollable rage might have been prescribed some form of calming drug, thus leading to the correlation.
These drugs may lower inhibitions thus leading to a shorter fuse.
You made my point exactly just while I was posting.
Do you think 0bama will use this as a basis for one of his executive orders? I’m sure the attorney general will go along with it.
piss test Congress

That's what I think. The kind of people who are given such drugs may already have homicidal tendencies. This could be like a study showing that gun owners are more likely than non-gun owners to shoot someone.
I think that unless you can point to a flaw in the research, you're just personally expressing wishful thinking.
It’s been a long time since we had an hysterical anti-depressants thread!!!
