Do Texas floods portend a new ice age?
Ice Age Now ^ | 30MAY2015 | Robert Felix

Posted on 05/30/2015 7:55:36 PM PDT by Jack Hydrazine

“What do floods in Texas have to do with the coming Ice Age?” asks reader Caroline Snyder.

“Quite a lot actually!

“Looking at the historic record, we only have to go back to the 16th Century; a time when the Little Ice Age was causing devastation across Europe, but what of the South-West US?“

This article, amongst other things, looks to first hand accounts by Europeans amongst other things.

Little Ice Age

(Excerpt) – “…if you think it’s cold here in the Southwest now, you should have been around back in the days when the Spanish, Mexicans and Anglos settled in the region, during the period scientists call the “Little Ice Age.” A world-wide phenomenon that lasted from the 15th century well into the 19th century, the Little Ice Age brought frigid winter weather and powerful storms to many parts of the world. In Europe, England’s Thames River and the Netherlands’ canals and streams often froze over, setting a tableau for ice skating. Europe’s Atlantic coast suffered winter storms of violent and bone-chilling winds and torrential rains. In Iceland, miles of sea ice surrounded the shorelines of the island like a massive collar, shutting down marine traffic. In New York City in 1780, the harbor froze over, offering residents a frigid walk from Manhattan to Staten Island. In our Southwestern region, the icy winters and substantially foreshortened and drier growing seasons may have forced the Puebloan Indians to give up agriculture in many areas.

AND(Excerpt) – For men accustomed to tailored clothing, walking about the Texas landscape in the middle of the Little Ice Age, sparsely clad or naked, it probably seemed very cold indeed. As reported by Oviedo, “the north [wind] blows in winter, when even the fish freeze, inside the sea, from the cold” and a single day would bring “snow and hail.” Indeed, fish kills due to extreme winter cold fronts are well documented along the Texas coast today.

Actually, we are currently in a two million year ice age, but in one of its inter-glacials at the moment. We are due to go back into the deep freeze any time.

If it gets really hot in that region this summer, the humidity might be on the extreme end. I heard there was so much rain, it would cover the entire state of TX 18” deep. But maybe I’m recalling the wrong figure.

Joe Bastardi says it’s going to be cool in the middle of the USA this summer.

‘Texas Flood’, Release date
Stevie Ray Vaughan

1983

It floods here when storms come through. When the ground gets wet it rains more like in the ancient saying when it rains it pours.

We’ve been praying for rain.Three years without it

Packed our stuff last August. Thought we’d have to leave in a hurry if one of the p whipped neighbors dropped a late night back yard lot Marlboro

I’m a New Yorker and I totally get the Long Island sound weather systems and their effects on people, nature,
wildlife and lighthouse activities

This is about the clay soil base. The water needs time to run off

Stevie Ray, a Dallas man, wrote about it in the early eighties. Made no more of it than the blues abut a guy getting dumped by his girl

El Nino is back so it’s raining a lot. Should be a fairly cool summer — only a month or so over 100F.

When I moved down here 7-8 years ago there was a drought and the local folks said “Every drought ends with a flood.” And it did. It rained almost daily for about a month.

This is just another cycle of the same.

BTW, I heard on the radio that the flood gates on the Longhorn Dam have been inoperable for years and if true, it accounts for much of the flooding in Austin. The LCRA doesn’t own the Longhorn: it’s Austin city property, so expect a tax increase there when the lawsuits get rolling.
