We live in an upscale neighborhood. One has to have a lot of money to buy a house and live in this area. The weak link I see here are the “workers” who come into this neighborhood - the swimming pool cleaners, the house cleaners, the yard caretakers, the remodeling workers, the carpet cleaners, the pest control workers, the air conditioning checkers/cleaners, etc..

All these workers know what is around and in these houses. I keep prep stuff in closets/cabinets where they don't go. On days house cleaners come, valuables are put where they don't go.

My point is, although those people don't live in this area, they know where these expensive houses are and can navigate through here since they work here.

Should a long emergency happen, these homes would be a draw to those who know there is good stuff in these houses. I do think men on this street would band together if need be to secure at least our street and since this is Texas, I feel sure all these men have weapons and know how to use them. However, I doubt they are preppers so they won't have water and food, either, which will be gold at that time for all of them.

Really, it is a nightmare come true if we dissolve into this group against that group, this family against that family, this man against that man - horrible.

“My point is, although those people don’t live in this area, they know where these expensive houses are and can navigate through here since they work here.”

Absolutely. It was the same before I escaped Mexifornia - we were in the ‘good’ area of town, so our houses were targets that the illegals went for when burglarizing, etc. Even before there is economic collapse or other forms of civil unrest. I felt like a sitting duck, waiting for the inevitable crash.

So when we moved to the country, we bought a house that was no better than the surrounding houses on the surface. It is older and needs updating badly. We’ll remodel quietly - because I really can’t deal with the dark paneling with my vision problems - but from the outside, nobody will know we’ve spent money on it. We’ll add a ‘barn’ (shop), but since that’s normal around here, it will fit in. And the HUGE finished basement is my dream-come-true! It is stuffed with food storage, gun safes, etc. And is delightfully cool!

There were lots of newer houses we saw, but we actually did like this one best because of the acreage and somewhat isolated location. Those newer houses might be targets when the time comes - they rather look like ‘yankee’ houses, LOL! People around here don’t talk about liberals, but about Yankees. It’s the northerners that come here and try to infiltrate with their liberal ideas that bother the locals, so I guess they don’t have many from the 2 coasts move in.

We’re just trying to blend in. Our money will NOT be in a local bank except to use for an ATM and deposits. We’ll start some businesses, small ones that are labor intensive, so it appears we need money and are struggling like everyone else but nobody will know we’re only working part-time and enjoying the beauty full-time. And I’m subtly (I hope) going around and talking about things like how illegals can ruin a state, the inevitable economic collapse, and the evils of socialism. Just to influence people if I can - the great thing is, most are already on board ;)

I agree with you, Marcella, about the “weak link” of potential infiltration. HH is so lucky to have a basement area. We don’t have those in SE TX....too much water in the ground (especially now!).

Sounds like you have a great set-up, HH. I like your style of having nondescript on the outside....any comfort you require, on the inside! And....that wonderful, cool basement.
