I agree with you, Marcella, about the “weak link” of potential infiltration. HH is so lucky to have a basement area. We don’t have those in SE TX....too much water in the ground (especially now!).
Sounds like you have a great set-up, HH. I like your style of having nondescript on the outside....any comfort you require, on the inside! And....that wonderful, cool basement.
My #1 items on my list of wants was a basement! I really wanted to be able to ripen cheese in it. BUT it’s finished and isn’t cool enough, darn it! So my list for when hubby gets here is to dig a ‘dairy’, that’s what the locals call a small building set into a hill because generations ago, dairy products were stored there.
I didn’t get a creek. Or enough hardwoods. But even here, it was hard to find property away from neighbors that had it all. I have a dirty pond and only 5 acres of wood, probably not enough to heat throughout the entire winter unless we live in 1-2 rooms.
We each have to just do the best we can. I was setup in the middle of a city as well, with food storage, water, ammo, etc. But the neighbors worried me more there!
Are you in a safe place, Jane?
Compounds of like-minded people would probably be the best way to survive or better yet, fight. Too bad you can’t all just move to ‘Hardens Hollow’!
