Standing Athwart the March of History, Yelling, Stop! Wait for Me!
With its managing editor endorsing same-sex marriage, will National Review join the ranks of the Church's persecutors?
... For many of us, National Review is indispensable daily reading. It hosts many of conservatisms most gifted writers. Indeed, The Stream is proud to publish columns by such NR stalwarts as Jonah Goldberg, Rich Lowry and Kathryn Lopez. This is why the publication of a long essay defending same-sex marriage by National Reviews managing editor Jason Lee Steorts is so distressing. Steorts defends both same-sex marriage and, by implication, sexual relations between people of the same sex. His isnt merely the misguided but understandable libertarian plea for the state to get out of the marriage business. Rather, its a lengthy critique of what he calls, somewhat dismissively, the traditionalist view of marriage. ...

Was Buckley against gay marriage?
Are you serious?
It sure did. Seems there would be room for a conservative magazine these days but it would have to be way outside the cesspool that is dc.
Perhaps this quote from the article will give you a clue ...
“The founder of National Review William F. Buckley, Jr. grew up in Mexico, and saw first-hand the devastating effects of state assaults on religion. His first book, God and Man at Yale, was a sustained response to relativism and subjectivism fallacies which Steorts accepts with a shrug as simple common sense. Buckley used his vast talents, charm and wisdom to create a journal of resistance. Will it now be surgically altered into an organ for collaborators?”
Steorts is an overeducated pseudo-intellectual homo.
Well folks, If the publications do not go along with the agenda, they get no more access to the ‘newsmakers’. Thus, insolvency.
This is yet another aspect of what electing lesser evil results in. Anyone starting to get the idea yet? It is not and never was simple Dem Vs. GOP. It’s about a shared agenda. The GOP died when Reagan left office. Learn that. Accept it. Because reality does not care for excuses.
Half their staff is probably queer, what do you expect.
The whole point of conservatism is to maintain traditions that have existed for thousands of years and have become so engrained in the contours of civilization that we have forgotten what it was like before they existed. Marriage epitomizes such a tradition and woe until the culture that has the hubris to think that such a tradition can be disregarded on a whim.
He was pretty liberal socially.
Rationalization doesn’t mean something is morally good.
Just because the left cna drum up reasons for their case, if they are arguing for an immoral thing, no amount of reasons can just make it right, or a good thing.
To wit, they rationalize abortion over a myriad of reasons. That doesn’t make it morally right or good.
Nuts to them.
They should put Benedict Arnold on the masthead. Or Judas Iscariot.
Buckley is gone. Ad revenues are most likely down.
They gotta get their filthy lucre somewhere.
And the gay movement is rather free with their ad spending...if you play along.
I would not know - as I stopped reading NR when WFB died ... Apparently, considering the present circumstance, it was the right decision.
Destroy marriage and destroy the family, destroy the family and you destroy civilization. Only then can individuality be destroyed and every person considered a citizen of father government whom they depend on and obey in exchange for their sustenance. All from the socialist party playbook.
You cannot claim reason, be a rational thinking adult, adhering to objective reality, and yet be convinced of any “equality” between sodomite faux “marriage” and marriage between man and woman.
