China's forces will no longer be limited to defence of the nation's territory but will project its military power further beyond its borders at sea and more assertively in the air in order to safeguard its maritime possessions, the white paper states.
While the air force will shift focus from "territorial air defence" to both offence and defence, the Chinese army will increase its global mobility and its artillery will improve its "medium and long-range precision strikes", it said

I always thought we were absolute idiots for blindly building up China economically.
With our current weak pansy in the white house, every dictator and wannabe super villain is feeling their oats.
Won’t happen with the current wimp in the White House, but you get an alpha male back in the saddle and we’ll be kicking ChiCom butt, I reckon.
Hohumm, the Chinese are good at making products and good a peddling bull shit.
that’s because you have a brain. One would need to be missing that mass in the head to think that was a good idea. isolating and challenging the USSR is what brought it down. But I’m sure now that we’re opening up to cuba everything should be fine there /s
Cuba is another story. I am not a fan of opening up to them until they throw off their communist yoke. But, at least they do not have the potential to be a superpower (as China does).
Ping
With Obama and and the hate the West leftists in charge there will be no war.
China is not going to war with a nation that owes them trillions of dollars.
Remember this incident at the beginning of President’s Bush’s tenor.
A United States Navy spy plane on a routine surveillance mission near the Chinese coast collided on Sunday with a Chinese fighter jet that was closely tailing it. The American plane made an emergency landing in China, and the United States said it was seeking the immediate return of the 24 crew members, all said to be in good condition, and of the sophisticated aircraft and all its intelligence equipment.
The midair crash occurred about 50 miles southeast of China’s Hainan Island, in what American officials described as international waters. The EP-3E Aries II aircraft, which had taken off from an American air base in Okinawa, Japan, issued a Mayday call but managed to make an emergency landing on the island. The Chinese plane crashed into the waters below

They haven’t tested the flexible one yet.
China knows the current POTUS won’t do anything significant because no one wants a war with China. Even if Zero hints at it, the Chinese will stop funding US debt and our economy suddenly gets sick. If things get really tense, they call Hilary and mention the back-door donations.
The ChiComs also know that they have to be aggressive now because this POTUS is (probably) done in 2 years. His replacement won’t be nearly as accommodating.
“China is not going to war with a nation that owes them trillions of dollars.”.........
And the country that imports all the crappy products made in China only to be sold by Walmart and a host of other outlets here in the U.S.
U.S. vs China war would shut their economy down as well.
“Wont happen with the current wimp in the White House, but you get an alpha male back in the saddle and well be kicking ChiCom butt, I reckon.”
Would that be like the alpha male George W. Bush? Early in his administration the Chicoms forced down a US recon plane in an unprovoked attack over international waters. We did get the crew members back but not the plane. The administration caved to Chinese demands for an apology and expressed its “regret” over the incident. The Chinese suffered no repercussions. Trade, the deindustrialization of the US, and the buildup of the Chinese economy and military continued as though nothing happened.
No other country has the LIFT capabilities to invade across an ocean.
Course they could just use nukes.
They don't have to. Who in this government will stand up to them?
yeah but what’s going to happen? corporations are going to move jobs and Cubans income will rise as well as lifestyle but they will still be under a repressive communist regime. Actually the more comfortable they get the less they will care about the oppression. it never works the other way around. the only way for free trade to work is if United States slashed taxes and made the business climate much much more amenable. & I don’t see that happening anytime soon unless a Cruz or a walker wins the next election.
