The Florida teen whose dream came true when an NFL player escorted her to the prom has died, hospital officials announced Friday.
Khameyea Jennings, 18, of Jacksonville, who was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2013, died Thursday, the Florida Times-Union reported, citing Wolfson Childrens Hospital spokesman Cindy Hamilton.
Earlier this month, Jennings went to her prom with Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks. The pair wore matching white and gold formalwear and drove to the Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology prom in Marks Lamborghini.
Marks, flowers in hand, had visited Jennings in April at Wolfson, where she was undergoing treatment, and asked the teen to prom after the nonprofit Dreams Come True approached the Jaguars about the prom invitation. Marks said at the time he jumped at the chance to make a difference in Jennings life.
Jennings' mother said the teen enjoyed the opportunity to attend prom without having to worry about her cancer treatments.
She said this is a day to be normal, Laquandra Jennings told the Times-Union at the time, not to have to worry about needles, chemo, potassium levels. Just a day to be a teenager and enjoy the prom.
I really want to make a difference, Marks said on prom night. I want to do something where you actually make someones day, to make a difference in someones life.

Mine too....must be bad reception on the internet...........
Yes, that is strange, but it may be her condition precluded that for some reason.
A very sad story, but I’m glad that fellow took her to the prom, I’m sure it was quite thrilling for her.
Pretty kid. Prayers up to the family. Good man...
More photos from the prom.
RIP lovely child.
God bless her.
Pardon the expression, but you’re pretty much a goner with liver cancer. Treatment is a delaying tactic. It’s also one of those types that is prone to metastasis. Lost a friend to it in 2003. It was in his spine in no time.
Not true. I had a friend with liver cancer who had a transplant and lived for 21 years before he got cancer again and passed.
I’m glad to hear that. I honestly don’t know what the stats are, i.e. how common what you describe is.
At the time, I told my GP about it & that is what he told me.
I looked up stats:
For all stages combined, the relative 5-year survival rate from liver cancer is about 15%.
Lot of variables and variations, including where the cancer started. But as a whole, pretty poor odds.
What a shame.
Now, THAT’S pure class!!! Way to go!
Living the words of our Lord and Savior:
Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, Lord... when did we see You sick...and come to You? 40 And the King will answer and say to them, Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.”
Blessed to be a blessing. GOD’s blessings on Sen’Derrick and thanksgiving for his example.
So very glad this young lady had a wonderful night of enjoyment.
This cancer scourge has got to STOP.
Many believe there’s some answers ‘out there’ that are being snuffed.
It’s been advised in some circles to keep the immune system healthy, and boosted, to fight off cancer.
It makes me crazy when, year after YEAR, on TV ‘commercials,’ college students are hoping to find the ‘answer to cancer - ‘
Can we hear from some of those students NOW ? - it’s been years since their hopes of finding the ‘answer to cancer.’
What a rhyme - I’m getting angry right about now - - -
Tears, . . .
She looks lovely in the photos. 18 is so young. Rest in peace, Khameyea.
