NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) – It is believed the man wanted for the murder of a Washington, D.C. family and their housekeeper is in Brooklyn, Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier said Thursday.

Metropolitan Police in Washington issued an arrest warrant for Daron Dylon Wint on first-degree murder charges in connection with the May 13 quadruple murder and arson case.

“We have information that we believe Mr. Wint is currently in the Brooklyn, New York-area,” Lanier said.

“We continue to seek the public’s assistance in locating Wint,” Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said. “If you see something, we’re begging of you, to say something, to call law enforcement. Any bit of information can lead to a breakthrough and can lead to us solving this heinous crime in the District of Columbia.”

Wint, 34, is black, 5’7″, and weighs about 155 pounds, authorities said. Police say he should be considered armed and dangerous.

“We have information that he was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue hooded sweatshirt, and white tennis shoes,” Lanier said.

Lanier said she has been in touch with Police Commissioner Bill Bratton about getting NYPD help to find him.

“They have offered and are providing all assistance that we need in trying to locate Mr. Wint,” Lanier said.

Sources said Wint may already be on his way back to the D.C.-area to turn himself in, 1010 WINS’ Carol D’Auria reported. Sources said he was in Brooklyn with a female friend, who is now talking to U.S. Marshals and police, apparently asking a lot of questions about what he should do next.

There’s a $25,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

“Even his family has made pleas for him to turn himself in,” Lanier said.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099. You can also text a tip anonymously to 50411.

DNA found on the crust of a Domino’s Pizza ordered to the family’s home last week was connected to Wint, CBS News confirmed.

The pizza order arrived as Savvas Savopoulos, his wife Amy, and their 10-year-old son Philip and housekeeper Veralicia Figueroa were being held captive inside and possibly tortured, police said.

All were slain before the fire was set, police said, and three had been stabbed or bludgeoned.

“We do believe that there is a connection between the suspect in this case through the business,” Lanier said. “Right now, it does not appear that this was a random crime.”

Authorities say Savopolous’s assistant visited the home during the ordeal, delivering a package containing $40,000. Police are looking into the possibility that the money was an extortion payment.

The house, which is located just minutes from the residence of Vice President Joe Biden, was set on fire just a few hours later.

Text messages and voicemails from the Savopouloses to their confused and frightened household staff suggest something was amiss in the house many hours before the bodies were found. Their blue Porsche turned up in suburban Maryland. It too had been set on fire.

The Savopouloses lived in Woodley Park, where multimillion-dollar homes are protected by fences and elaborate security systems and local and federal law enforcement officers are a constant presence.

Wint has a prior conviction for assault and pleaded guilty in 2010 to malicious destruction of property.

Savapoulos is survived by two teenage daughters who were away at boarding school at the time of the murders.

Looking forward to think punk being thoroughly ventilated by NYPD.

I'm sure there will be race riots in a show of support if/when this happens. The black community always seems to stand by in solidarity with each and every member of their race, no matter how vile.

It’s a good thing they didn’t have a gun in the house, someone might have been shot!

I’m not sure what makes this case different.

Home invasion. Not the same as whites stumbling into "their" neighborhood and getting mugged.

Why this particular home? Did the assistant to the victim not think it strange to be asked to bring $40k cash to the home? Will we ever know the whole truth?

Probably a little too close to the power elite.
