The Washington Free Beacon’s Stephen Gutowski documented his attempt to obtain a DC permit; he was denied for failing to meet the “good reason” provision. Right now, only eight people are allowed to carry a concealed firearm in DC out of a city whose population is close to 650,000.

I guess the VIOLENT CRIME RATE is not a “good reason”

Come to Kansas where July 1st, all you need is a weapon and a smug sense of knowing you’re covered under the second amendment like you’re supposed to be.

There are some areas of D.C. wherein, if you are not carrying, you’re the only one.

So, does that also strike down New Jersey’s requirement that you “prove a need” to obtain a carry permit?

Mind you, I still consider ANY requirement for a permit or registration an infringement...

Lots of law abiding citizens in Detroit get ccw’s, why not DC? We do have a right to both keep and bear arms.

I would note that the Mayor is “threatening my life” by not allowing me the human right to self defense and access to my Constitutional Rights.

That's good.

Here's the "good reason" I would have given:

"Over-reaching government."

Applicants had to document threats to their personal safety as well.

Would a printout of all the registered Democrats in DC suffice?

Why do you have to have a “good reason” for a constitutional right?

Do I have to have “good reason” to practice any other constitutional right?

As usual, California is dead last in these things. Guns will be allowed openly in Chicago before restrictive gun laws are lifted in California.

Document threats?

I could do that!

“My neighbor said he would put a pipe through my butt...”

“He also said he would keel-haul me...”

“And literally mow me down wi his tractor.”

Is that acceptable documentation?

The “good reason” is that I have a Constitutional Right to carry.

The citizen should never have to provide a good reason. It is the government that must supply a good reason why I should not carry. There are very few “good reasons” that should qualify. Being a criminal with a history of violence is one.

We need to get off the defense on this and go on offense and put the government/courts on defense. Force them to provide “good reasons”. Don’t let them force us to do so.

Could this be an indicator that our courts might be beginning to recognize the Constitution in its clarity and simplicity is something to be considered.

More from the fascist anti-gun law in DC:

“Scullin did not touch the other provisions of the law, which include strict limitations on where concealed guns can be carried. Under the city’s law, the holder of a concealed handgun cannot enter government buildings, schools, libraries, most bars and restaurants, or use public transportation. They also have to stay 1,000 feet away from any U.S. or foreign dignitary.”

This gives a small hint of how scared the elitist pigs are of armed citizens.

“a good reason to fear injury to his or her person, which shall at a minimum require a showing of a special need for self protection distinguishable from the general community”

Can one site the statistics of response to a 911 call vs. % of killings per capita vs. the % of homicide cases solved vs. ...

How ‘bout “I want what the same options and protection those elected in D.C. are given.” Oh, you mean I can’t get 5 bodyguards @ taxpayer expense; then I guess I’ll settle for exercising my 2nd Amend. RIGHTS instead.

If “good reason” laws are unconstitutional, the CCW laws of Maryland, New Jersey, New York (City and State) and Massachusetts are unconstitutional.

I don’t know of any other states that use a strict “good reason” standard, but I live in the Northeast and I am most affected by the NY-NJ-MD iron curtain when travelling overland.
