Immigration: 445,000 Awaiting A Court Date, Which Might Not Come For 4 Years

By MOLLY HENNESSY-FISKE

The backlog of cases pending in immigration courts now tops 445,000 An ever-increasing backlog in immigration court means some cases are scheduled to be heard in 2019

A growing backlog of cases in immigration courts was fueled by last summer's surge from Central America Driven by last summer’s surge of illegal immigration from Central America, the already large backlog in federal immigration courts has reached an all-time high, with more than 445,000 pending cases, according to a new report.

As of April, the backlog hit 445,706 cases, a nearly 30% increase since Oct. 1, 2013, the start of the last fiscal year, according to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University.

Immigration courts have been overwhelmed since the influx last fiscal year of more than 68,500 unaccompanied children and about as many family units crossing the southern border, most from Central America.

During that surge, unaccompanied children’s cases were given priority in the courts and expedited — referred to as “rocket dockets” — in Los Angeles and other cities.

Even so, they make up a small proportion of the backlog: 70,035 cases, about 16% of the total as of April. But the juvenile case backlog is still 68% larger than it was last June, when there was a backlog of 41,641 juvenile cases.

While most backlogged cases involved Mexican immigrants, their backlog has increased only about 4% since the start of last fiscal year, while the backlog has skyrocketed for Central Americans — up 63% for Guatemalans, 92% for Salvadorans and 143% for Hondurans.

If we elect a conservative president, he should push to appoint a whole lot of conservative judges to the immigration courts.

Illegals should have no recourse to the courts. Congress can eliminate the jurisdiction of federal courts to hear immigration cases. End of story.

"overload the courts"

As the article points out, there are only 58 immigration courts with 233 judges, who are really administrative judges.

Backlogs and overloads are not anything new. If each judge heard 10 cases per day that would be 2330 times 250 days per year would be 582,000 cases per year. 5 cases per day would be half that, 296,000 cases per year

They also have 34,000 detention beds which means they can hold 34,000 illegals at any given time. Of course that doesn't include illegals held on criminal charges who would be held in the criminal justice system and have their cases heard in the criminal court system

Like El Gorge Bushbo?

This whole shit sandwich started when he failed to maintain the reverse escalator belt back in Mehico for illegals.

El Bambo is merely reaping the benefits of El Gorge’s policy.

“surge” That’s one word to describe a lawless executive branch run amok.
