Ted Cruz Was Fearless Yesterday
Red State ^ | 5/16/2015 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 05/16/2015 9:16:29 AM PDT by VinL

Last night in Georgia, Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100% spoke to the delegates at the Georgia Republican Convention.

Regular readers of RedState know that the Speaker of the House in Georgia, collaborating with gay rights activists, left-wing Democrats, and big business, scuttled a state version of the Religious Freedom Restoration Action in exchange for Democrat votes on a billion dollar tax increase.

If conservatives wanted RFRA passed in Georgia, the Speaker demanded they gut the legislation with “anti-discrimination” language that would actually expand protected classes in Georgia for the left.

Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100% spoke last night and he called B.S. on the antics. He pointed to Indiana and Arkansas and assailed Republicans for hiding from the fight against the Democrat-Big Business coalition.

I’m told it did not go over well with Republican leaders, but it went over very well with the base of the party, which this afternoon is expected to endorse exactly what Cruz called for — real religious liberty protections.

Good for the Senator.

When did Walker say $100 fine then citizenship?

March, 2015. It was in an article on Breitbart. He was speaking to a private dinner of businessmen. He has since taken several other positions, but take your pick. I’m sure the article was posted on Free Republic, but you could probably find it by googling “Walker $100 fine”.

“Realistically, the ‘hispanic’ vote is tiny compared to the base. I see a lot of over-reaction here on FR about those little slivers of votes.”

I agree...particularly if your natural base is the WHITE VOTE. I STRONGLY question those advisers (most of them gay, by the way) that INSIST we cannot win without them, and then say that the only way to get them is Amnesty. As I point out on my “About” page, Republicans did JUST FINE with the Hispanic vote last year, throughout the South, and they didn’t do a damn thing to pander to them.

“I hear you saying it’s OK to ‘fudge’ on principles to make sure you get the top spot?”

Pretty much. Reagan was forced to promise that his first Supreme Court appointment would be a woman (who turned out to be Sandra D., a disappointment), but he knew he had to do it to sow up his victory.

It doesn’t help to lose as a purist and Reagan knew he could do a lot more good by winning.

“I believe 40% of Hispanics voted for him in Texas senate election and he had the same views then as now.”

Yep...along with 45% of Hispanics voting for EVERY statewide Republican in 2014 - and, despite every warning of Republican advisers (most of them gay, by the way), the Republicans ran HARD CORE for border security.

“I think you’re right. By his legal training...”

Good point...you get hard work out of the way first.

Bush Sr. and then McCain had such big problems with the base, that they had to reach to the far right at the end of their campaigns to even stand a chance (Bush Sr. had to do that in both of his campaigns). But doing so that late leaves you looking desperate. As I just mentioned, Reagan had the base so well locked down that he able to tack a bit towards the center at the end, and therefore looked in command and did great.

Thank you. Is that the one where Walker said he did not say that? That the reporter mis-quoted him.

I don’t know if Walker personally ever denied it, some of his operatives did, but the sources for the article at Breitbart stand by the story. It sounds a bit far fetched that someone would make something that specific up out of thin air. It also lines up with speeches that Walker has given on the subject that favored a path to citizenship.
Sometimes his position has seemed rather garbled and hard to understand. What I found surprising is that any serious contender for President would not know and be able to articulate his position on illegal immigration clearly. It is a huge issue to most of us.

They are all selling out the country.

B.S., with Ted, they never get citizenship, thus no vote.

With everyone else, they get citizenship, some sooner than others.

I have an agenda. I will vote for a conservative this time around, and push back hard against the GOP-E and the media, so they don't get to pick the candidate unopposed.

Cruz meets my 5 points, so he's getting my volunteer time and real money.

At least I'm not ashamed to indicate my agenda.

Some people try to hide their agenda, but their posting history outs them pretty well.

You have a reputation with me, and I'd be interested in your perceptions of Cruz when you met him in person.

It would be nice to hear it from someone I trust.

They do NOT care about citizenship, just our jobs and benefits. Have dealt with hundreds in justice system and had to warn them conviction = no citizenship. Not one cared

He was here on our Capitol grounds in Austin for 2nd Amendment Day.

I was wearing my Second Amendment Sisters’ t-shirt with the message:

“FIREARMS!

The Ultimate in Feminine Protection!

He came up to me and told me how much he liked my t-shirt. We haemaybe a 5 or 10 minute conversation about the 2A—and he’s passionate about firearms and our rights to own them.

I only wish that I had had the foresight to ask him to autograph my shirt!
