Pro-Immigration Provision Stripped From Defense Bill (moderates and democrats hardest hit!)

A bipartisan coalition came close Thursday to protecting immigration-related language in the fiscal 2016 National Defense Authorization Act — but not close enough.

A 221-202 vote on an amendment, offered by Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., stripped a provision in the underlying bill encouraging the Pentagon to study options for enlisting undocumented immigrants into the military in exchange for a pathway to legal status.

All 182 Democrats voted “no,” joined by 20 Republicans.

Passage of the Brooks amendment will prompt a sigh of relief from GOP leaders, who feared its failure would put the entire NDAA bill in jeopardy — at least 25 House Republicans said their support for the measure was contingent upon removal of the amendment adopted during the markup in the House Armed Services Committee, offered by freshman Democrat Ruben Gallego of Arizona. And with almost every Democrat prepared to vote against final passage, every GOP vote counted.

Plenty of Republicans likely voted for the Brooks amendment out of loyalty to leadership and to protect the NDAA bill. One such member was Rep. Joe Heck, R-Nev., who typically supports similar immigration measures but also sits on the Armed Services panel.

But while passage of Brooks’ amendment ensures smooth sailing for the NDAA when consideration wraps Friday, the vote could have reverberations for the rest of the 114th Congress.

The vote showed conservatives are still resolved to fight any pro-immigration measure that may arise, especially as it relates to fighting President Barack Obama by proxy.

I hope Congresscritter McSally goes into overdrive with amnesty.

The hate for the McPuppets will get worse and the best chance of beating McCain in 2016.

Secondly, John McCain actually opposes this crap because it gets in his way of proposing 10 new wars, next week and imperils the NDAA.

But now McCain can’t claim credit for killing the Dreamer Amendment. The Alabama Slammer Mo Brooks can claim credit.

Coffman and Denham are claiming they speak for all veterans wanting illegals in the miltary.

I believe that Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who is listed as being from Washington, is actually another Floridian. Though she probably does spend a lot of time in Washington, DC.

First, the (D’s) torpedo Zer0’s trade fast track. Now, they dug a ditch in a “pathway” to citizenship.
They are backing away from him to make themselves appear to be
less radical before 2016.

The headline is ridiculous. Pro-immigration? Why should we allow illegal aliens to join the military? We are reducing the size of the military forcing people out. There is no real recruitment problem.

They did no such thing. ALL of the Democrats voted to retain the language in the original bill. The article is poorly written and makes it unclear that the Amendment, which was to strip the illegal provision from the NDAA was passed. And it was passed entirely with Republican votes.

No foreign nationals need to be in the US military, PERIOD! Especially illegals out of central/south america.

Recruiting illegals from the third world is the equivalent of hiring and training mercenaries, ISIS members, and gangbangers from mexican drug cartels.

It’s not surprising that 75% of Washington state’s Republican representatives voted in favor of keeping the language in the bill.

The state has four Republican Reps. They are all left-wing RINOs. Every one of them.
